I have two beautiful, female, long haired cats. Both have recently had a litter of kittens.
We are always big on worming and defleaing, infact they have never had fleas..that is until now.
We had to stop all treatments while they have been pregnant and nursing and both cats and kittens have fleas.
We took them to the vets and the vets sprayed the kittens with this stuff about 5 weeks ago, and used the spot on treatment for the mum, but now they all have fleas AGAIN!!!
So we have bought this prescribed flea spray for £30 (!!!!!) To use on them all

My question is how often do u give your cats flea treatment??

I thought we were home dry for least 3months but it was only 5weeks ago we took them to the vets and now these horrible little things are back.

What can we do to get rid of them for good! I bloody hate fleas.

I'm not sure on what products as I have never had to de flea my cat but will say that you need to treat carpets and bedding etc in your house as fleas get everywhere and will just reinfest if the house isn't treated too.

Hey hun, well I know how you feel I have 3 cats and recently had to de-flea the whole house, took forever! I had to research about how to get rid of them so now I have all this useless information lol.

Flea eggs can drop off and live in your carpet/between floorboards for a year so even if your cat is treated. If the house isn't treated too then they can easily pick them back up.

I think you're meant to give the cats flea treatment every month, although I'd check with the specific treatment instructions before doing that. What flea treatment did your vet give you? I know that recently Frontline (which is commonly used by vets) apparenty doesn't work very well now as fleas are becoming immune to it. I used Advantage which got rid of the fleas: http://www.vetuk.co.uk/advantage-flea-control-advantage-for-cats-c-3_660_873

You'll need to get a household spray as well, I would suggest not buying anything from your vets and buying the treatments yourself, they are so much cheaper online. I bought this spray for £20 from my vets, went home and found it for £6 on Amazon. I'd suggest buying Indorex Household Spray for your carpets/sofas/bedding/between floorboards etc. Anywhere the cats go! It says it lasts a year but I doubt that so I use it every four months or so. I got through 2 cans in my house and the fleas were gone! I wouldn't use it whilst pregnant though so see if someone else can spray it for you and air out the rooms. If you have an upstairs/downstairs it's best to do one area first and let the cats go in the other area as they can't breathe it in either.

Anyway hope that helps!xx

Oh and hoover the house before using the spray and make sure you empty the hoover straight and dispose of them in a bin outside as they'll crawl out of the hoover otherwise - they are pretty good survivors!

I have three cats and I used to use frontline but the fleas kept coming back. The only thing that stops them is flea collars which are only changed every four months. Ive used them for around 5 years and I soon no about it if they have fleas I get bitten, but had none

Hiya ladies
Thanks so much for your replies.
Well the stuff the vet prescribed is frontline, it's very potent and cost a fortune for the fartiest bottle you've over seen. The vet also suggested a Spray for the house but that alone was 30quid but I declined and bought my own which was considerably cheaper.
I'm constantly vaacing the house, I vac around 3times a day, I haven't got round to putting this carpet stuff down butbwill at weekend.
I think from now on I will buy all treatment online as you say Sammy, there's a massive price difference, just realised for the 30 quid I paid for the small bottle I could have got 500ml *sobs*
Thanks for the tip :-)
Normally I always use flea collars but had to take them off as I read nursing kittens are not allowed to wear them. Can't wait too buy some more!

Who says cats are not expensive!!!!!

Ps Sammy I just googled that Indorex spray and that's exactly what the vet wanted me too buy!!!
And it's massively cheaper online.
Thanks soooo much you've probably just saved me a fortune.

No worries, I wouldn't want someone making the same mistake I did. The vets receptionist offered me Indorex and I said to my OH 'maybe we should check if we can get it cheaper online' to which the receptionist said 'this is the cheapest you'll get it' - lies! Sooo much cheaper online, that link I sent you vetuk.co.uk is where I buy everything although amazon can be pretty cheap too. :) Good luck with the fleas!xx

Was gonna say everything Sammy said :-) I got indirect for £9 on amazon
Can't find the link at this hour, but look up a fleas life cycle, once you understand that you will feel more positive about the situation and feel more in control x

If the girls are going outside youl aways get fleas in the house. You notice them more on kittens though and they are horrible :( keep frontlining, spraying the house especially skirting boards and empty hoover after use x
