Hi all
This may seem like a silly question. But is it true that you can still have your period without ovulation?

Thanks Nim

Hmmm thats a toughie, I dont think you can I think a period is a sign of ovulation. May be worth googling it to find out, thats what id suggest!! xx

As far as I'm aware you can! As we get older we don't always ovulate every month, but will still have a period. Thats what my consultant told me!
Hope this helps :)

Hi

Yes and no. You can definitely bleed without having ovulation. It's called an anovulatory cycle when that happens. It seems just like a period, but they docs don't actually call it one, it's an anovulatory bleed instead.

I've had quite a few and you can't tell the difference, other than I tend to have a longer cycle than normal.

xx

Yes you can - I agree with Helen.

Although ovulation occurs in most cycles, it is possible to have a cycle, and a period, without ovulating. This is called an anovulatory cycle. Anovulation may occur in young women who have just started their periods, women who are breastfeeding, women nearing the menopause, and women whose cycles are longer than 35 days.

I had annovulatory cycles regularly as I had very long cycles. I would often have break through bleeding (spotting) between one period to another.
