Well I got up early ish.. got myself and Imogen ready and set off for the Nearly New Sale nearby. I was there half an hour early and 5th in queue.
For half hour as we were queueing I kept seeing NCT helpers taking loads of stuff out (decent stuff, things like bumbos, activity centres, buggy board..you know quite large stuff and all in good condition.)

About 10.55 am I realised these helpers had bought the stuff and were putting it in their cars...
When I went in at 11.00 there was not a lot of decent stuff left at all... because the helpers had taken it all. I saw two things I was interested in by the cash desks (a ring thing that babies sit in and an entertainer system (stationary activity centre thing). When I asked about them, they said they were sold (to them!!!).

Now this particular branch actually advertise that if you help out on the day, you get first dibs for half hour b4 sale.I don't know but that seems wrong to me.... we queue for half hour (or more) but they have already bought all the good stuff.... what does everyone else think?

Maybe I'd feel different if I helped out on the day!!!

What is everyone's views???

I didn't actually buy anything... it was all rubbish stuff left. :shakehead:

defo it i sreally unfair sorry that you didnt get anything

Hey Beatlesfan,

I help out at our local NCT Nearly New sales so I'm biased but I think its fair enough.I give my Saturday afternoon or morning for free twice a year to sit and sort through piles of stuff (very boring) or do 'checkout' for 2 hours during a HECTIC sale.

However our Nearly New sale has HEAPS of stuff and there's always loads of buggies, cots, highchairs, toys, baby and child clothes, books and lots more (its in a HUGE hall) for all the regular punters!

The first time I went and helped I was pregnant and got a moses basket from Mamas and Papas and a M&Ps vibrating bouncer and a back carrier with a metal frame, but I was really looking for big things then - this time most recently (November), I had all my big things and really wasn't in the market for much so didn't really buy anything but wee bits.

Valentine Xxx

P.S. I'm going to move this to General Discussion as its more suited to that area - hope thats okay.

Wow...

I was thinking about going to one this month, but maybe I'd be better off saving the £2 entry fee.

Perhaps there ought to be a limit on how many things volunteers can reserve.

I was really hoping to find some newborn clothes at a good price at one of the sales but I suppose I'll start checking ebay.

Thank you for the heads up and the story and sorry that happened to you!

Hi Quill
Please don't let that put you off - I have been to 3 others and got some really good stuff... I don't know if they let volunteers do that at every branch? def give your local one a go, I'd be interested to see what you thought anyway.

It is the first time I have experienced that since going to these. Maybe other branches do have a limit on how much they can have or their cars are parked out back, out of view of queuing customers!! :rotfl:

No problem with moving post Valentine, I nearly put it in that category then changed my mind... I can see it is good from a volunteer's point of view... maybe I need to volunteer??? Or maybe the sales I have been to before just had loads of good stuff?
