Back in the day, when our job was to have babies and keep the cave fires burning and mans job was to go hunting and feed the tribe, both roles were equally important not just for the survival of that one family but for the survival of mankind. Men and Women worked together in perfect balance, it was true equality.

Well women are still having the babies but men dont have an equal role anymore. OK men are needed to make the babies but women have always been seen as the ones who create life, we carry and give birth and feed. Without this ability there would be no more humans, simple as that! Men are no longer in an equal role. Since we learned to farm, trade and craft, and created a sustainable economy, mans role as hunter is no longer as important as womens role as mother.

I think this is why women have been supressed for so long (up until recently that is) in areas such as medicine, law, politics and religion - it was almost like men had said "look, you lot can give life, let us have something just as important!".

So maybe it was never about believing women to be the lower class, maybe it was always womb envy.

I agree it must be tough for a man to find his role in the modern world but am not sure envy is behind female oppression. :? Maybe fear, as women literally hold the future in their hands.

Being physically stronger meant men could have some control over women from day one, and because we would be 'out of action', pregnant or nursing, women relied on men for food at vital times. Male superiority is so entrenched in everything from politics to many organised religions that it's deifficult to imagine it ever turning round completely.

I heard a theory once that said the contraceptive pill has been causing hormone build-up in the western world's water, causing fewer male babies and male fertility problems as testorone is diminishing. Scientists can fuse two eggs together to make a female embryo meaning that men could become obsolete in a thousand years or so

I just wonder who I'm going to get to mow my lawn :D

The empowerment of women is bottling up HUGE problems for the future.

After mine and OH problems last year, he's been on anti depressants and counselling. The root of the problem comes from me being the main breadwinner, me being the one that looks after the children better, me that looks after the house better, me that drives / sorts all the car stuff. I still have the stereotypical female role in the family, but I've also taken on the male role. Stuart feels useless.

I was an only child and brought up to be very independant. We're all bringing our daughters up to be more independant, but is this the right thing to do? I want a man in my life but I don't need a man in my life. There will be a day when women really do have the same career opportunities as men, the world will be controlled by women, but what will be left for the men?
