So I was thinking of getting a Medela pump from boots as I have £50 worth of vouchers. They have the Medela Swing for just over £90, which I've heard great things about and am really tempted by, but I still can't really warrant £40 at the mo as my working tax credits haven't come through. They also had a Medela Mini Electric for just over £60 which means I could buy it straight anyway, but does anyone know how this one compares to the Swing?? If it's rubbish in comparison then I might wait and get the good one.

If you have a look on www.ciao.co.uk they're really good for reviews :)

I've only got the swing and so far i'm getting on with it lol!

i used them both, i had the cheaper one first then got fed up and bought the medela swing. Ill write up reviews here when i get 5 mins.

I have a medela swing. Been using it constantly over the past week as LO is in SCBU and I think it is fab. I have also tried using the breast pump that is on the SCBU unit and the medela swing is far better. Not tried the cheaper medela one though.

I actually got mine on ebay as I wasn't sure if it was something I would use all the time or not (turned out it was my best purchase!) Why not try looking for a second hand one and spending your boots vouchers on something else?

I havent used the mini one, but I had the Swing until I dropped it in my steraliser tub and I can vouch its brilliant. It was certainly worth every penny I spent on it, didn't cause me one stress whatsoever.
Ill be buying another when number 3 comes along, have just got a cheapy manual one now that I don't really need to pump anymore. I got mine from ebay.

 hiya, Im back now!

Okay so I was using the breast pump every 3 hours for 20 mins as LO couldnt latch on I was trying to keep my supply up and feed him as much expressed milk as I coud produce. I originally got the mini medella as they sold it in the hospital shop and they wouldnt let me go home until I had one. No time to research or shop around.

The mini nearly drove me to give up on breast feeding altogether. It does the job just fine but its soooo loud you cant hear the tele, and it used to wake LO up when he was asleep and then I couldnt move to pick him up  I found it a total nightmare. Then my breast feeding specialist lent me the swing for a week to try out and I loved it, obv it makes some noise but you can hear the tele and its nowhere near as angry sounding as the mini.

For anyone in my situation Id say get the swing everytime but if budget is tight and youre only going to use it occasionally like to express milk for a babysitter to give when youre out or something then the mini does the job just fine and wont drive you mad the first time you use it, just if its every day and youre on your own with a screaming baby, it might push you over the edge

Mini is very loud to the point you couldn't sit in front of the TV whilst expressing, no milk let down button.
Swing i use all the time due to Ellie not latching on properly and i love it, well as far as loving a pump goes, LOL. Someone said the Swing was on offer on Amazon the other day, might be worth a look.

The swing is amazing. Wish id bought it first instead of the tommee tippee one. Will you not get staff discount on it (is it still 12.5% on non boots products?) x

I think I've decided that I want to get the Medela Swing Electric one but now trying to find the best price for it! Most sites seem to be about £90 but found it on a site called Express Yourself Mums for £74.95 with free delivery (link at http://www.expressyourselfmums.co.u...-swing-breastpump-with-2-phase-expression.htm) - has anyone seen it cheaper than that or is that a good price? IE should I get it now or wait and see if it comes up cheaper anywhere in the next few weeks? Thanks xx

*EDIT* 4th Feb: I should have bought it the other day it's £83.50 now :-( Oh well still got a bit of time so will keep checking! x

Thanks girls! I think I will hold on and get the Swing once my finances are sorted! Yep Gem I do still get 12.5% off so it'll be about £35 :) Still can't afford it right now though, trying to live on £125 a month and that just covers my diesel and a couple of food shops!

The swing is absolutely amazing, honestly can't rate it high enough!! xxx

I have just bought a medela swing! Can't wait to try it out as I can only express 3 oz after 30 mins hand pumping and I'm sick of it. Eva messes about with latching on especially in the evenings and it's driving me mad. Hopefully I'll be able to express enough for a couple bottles in the evenings so I can have a break from the feeding.

Turns out my local Children's Centre loans out Medela Swing pumps for free!! So I've got one for 2 months to try it out without spending any money :) I like it already though - I had pretty much empty boobs when I tried it earlier but I still got 3oz in about 5 mins!
