I just went to register my pregnancy at the Drs. He did the usual.. asked questions etc and then did my BP and I was shocked to see it at 146/74! That is SO high for me! My BP is ALWAYS 110/65 (ish). So now, I guess I will be put down as having HBP when I actually don't! I just got home and did it again and it had come down slightly (because I'm no longer in the Drs) and now it is back to almost normal.

Did anyone else experience this?

Actually... you know what - I just realised that he didn't even bother to ask me the date of my LMP. Isn't he supposed to?

I rather thought so. That was one of the few things my doctor actually did! (Although their cardboard wheel thing goes on a 28-day cycle and doesn't make allowances if you have a longer or shorter cycle. You'd have thought if internet calculators can do that, doctors ought to be able to. But that's by the by.)

I don't know why the books all say to go to your doctor to confirm pregnancy. None of them seem to bother now! Maybe they should tell you to go to the doctor to inform them of the pregnancy.

No clue about the BP thing, sorry. Maybe you were just stressed by the whole going to the doctor thing? I know I was a little tense as I expected him to test me so a) I really needed the loo and b) I was terrified that if he did it would be negative. But he seemed satisfied with my BP reading. I wish they'd tell you the safe range so you know what those numbers actually mean!

when i saw the doc, he just said about what to avoid eating. no blood pressure or anything. just told me to book in with the midwife, who i see this week, 9 weeks.
they didnt even confirm i was pregnany by blood test, urine test?

i also jsut informed my dr that i was pregnant.. and i had a bp of 152/90 after i fell down the stairs.. i think stress can make ur bp go up.. try not to worry.. ur mw will chk it when u see her

I'm annoyed to be honest. He asked such stupid questions. Here is what I was asked:

Is this your first baby - Yes.

Is this your first pregnancy - Yes.

Then he asked how long Matt and I had been married - Er, we’re not married… so he asked how long we have been living together. I don’t understand why that’s of any importance to them but hey, I answered anyway that we had been together 7 years.

Are you taking folic acid - Yes.

Then asked for height and weight which I told him and then did my BP which I told him was way too high for me (I've done it several times since I got home and relaxed and it's back down to normal - 110/65). I know the ranges for HBP - Anything over 140 mmHg systolic or over 90 mmHg diastolic is classed as high.

I can't believe he didn't ask about LMP or even ask if I had done a home test.

Pointless, pointless, pointless!! :wall:

I went to the docs yesterday, she asked the date of my last period and then ignored me when i said i seem to have a long cycle so calculated on 28 days anyway. she listed foods i shouldn't eat and told me to ring the midwife and that was it! It wasn't till i got home that i realised she hadn't mentioned folic acid - which is surely one of the most imp things they can tell you! i think you only go now to get referred to the midwife.
