My husband has a severe nut allergy but I do not, is it safe for me to eat nuts?

In pregnancy I think they ask you to avoid them I'm not 100% but I've eaten them with my first and he doesn't have any issues xxx

I know they used to say to avoid but that it's safe now. I think I would steer clear with your hubby having severe allergies though xx

Eating nuts in pregnancy is fine, however, due to your husband's severe allergy it would be worth checking with your midwife first to be sure.

They recommend you don't avoid nuts now as new research suggests avoiding can lead to allergies but I'd still see what the midwife says although in all honesty i'd probably ask a doctor as its a reasonably specific question. I was worried as every single cousin of my children (on my partner's side) has a peanut allergy, one of them is so severe it could kill him and the other two would still need to go to hospital. But whenever I asked anyone about testing my children they kind of shrugged and said it didn't really mean much that the others had it and I'd soon find out if I fed th peanuts. They don't have the allergy but didn't seem very scientific! X

You are allowed to eat nuts when pregnant, in fact science says if you eat nuts it could prevent baby being allergic. Did eat then before you was pregnant...if so I'd say it's fine. Id just be worried eating them then kissing husband, not sure if that would affect yours. If your unsure call mw or check nhs website. Only thing you can't eat in pregnancy is soft cheeses I. E brie ect

My brother is anaphlaptic with nuts (not that I have consulted him on this) - I'd check with midwife but I'd have thought it should be fine, although obviously best done away from your husband!

A recent study has shown that exposing children at risk of allergies (due to family history) to potential allergens early in life after they have been born reduces the risk of them developing these same allergies... but that's a bit further down the line :)

There's a lot more things other than cheeses you can't eat! Ask your midwife if you aren't sure but other major ones are cold meats, eg Parma ham, then pate, rare steak etc because of the dangers of listeria X

Spoke to my midwife and she said there hasn't been enough research done to see if this affects the child. I will be staying away from nuts to be safe as we don't have them in the household anyway :)
