I had my son at home, I would really recommend it. Feel free to pm. I didn't have an independant midwife though.

Hi Manda,

i had my daughter at home 7 weeks ago - my birth story is in the link in my signature, feel free to read and PM with any questions etc. I didn't have an independent midwife though.

i booked for home last time but had to transfer in for meconium. im booked for home again this time. i would love an independent midwife but cant afford one.
i can see the attraction though because when i had nathan i had a new midwife that i hadnt met before and was a bit uneasy, as soon as my midwife came on shift i felt instantly more comfortable.
if you can afford it then go for it.
i have the same midwife this time and i hope that she will be on duty when i have this baby

I'm going for a homebirth this time :)

Could probably just afford an independant midwife (plus some letyoupay in installments) but they are like £2500 and I can't justify that cost. Not when we have just bought new leather reclining sofas and are getting a flatscreen TV
Good to see my family has their priorites straight

I'm scared of water too!
I can't have baths - I have a panic attack in them

But I really want to have a birth pool - it just seems right for some reason - Call me stupid (I probably am)!!!

I'm going to buy it early - like 6 months and use it as often as I can to get used to it.

lol good luck with it hun ul have to let me no how you get on and il try it with number 2 lol
thanks trixi il have a read after hollyoaks :D

Just wanted to say you can have your LO wherever you wish, some ladies find it a struggle but it's a right, don't let anyone tell you different :D
We hoped for a homebirth and found hypnobirthing gave no end of confidence and comfort, however we ended in hospital, I think independant MW's are a fantastic compliment to any pregnant lady, very best wishes with what you decide

I got told at about 36weeks that I may not get my homebirth if there are no midwifes available and that there were only 4 midwifes covering our area (which is the whole of berkshire inc Newbury, Reading, Slough etc so nice high population areas) also when the ward gets too busy those midwifes supposed to be covering homebirths get called in on the ward. This meant I was really really stressed the last few weeks of my pregnancy that I wouldn't be allowed to have a homebirth. I then looked at the costs of private midwifes but they were prohibitively expensive for just covering the last few weeks.

However if I had been told that when I was 12 weeks pregnant (about midwife availability) I would have found the money somehow, because it woudl have removed a huge stress from my shoulders. As it was I got my homebirth and I would highly recommend it. When I went into labour, you can't imagine the relieve I felt when I was told over the phone "the midwife is coming over to do an assessment". He told me a bit later on that he got a call to come into the ward 5 minutes after he got the call to come to me. However he told them he couldn't as he was attending a home birth :cheer:

In amongst all that waffling - find out how many midwifes are assigned to homebirths, what area they are covering and how many ladies are also pregnant. From this you can assess if it is worth signing up to a private midwife. However it can remove A LOT of stress if you feel strongly about not giving birth in hospital unless it is absolutely necessary.

I absolutely hate water and at the time i wanted a water birth, it just felt right. I loved it, its so peaceful and warm and calming.

This time i am considering a homebirth but not sure if i'm brave enough.
