Sorry if TMI

Had some anal bleeding on wiping during pregnancy, put it down to piles. Its continued since birth and I feel like I am passing glass, it hurts so much.

A month or two ago, I had an instance of some mucus stained with dark red blood, which frightened the life out of me. Went to docs and she referred me to see a consultant.

Anyway, went last night. He did an examination    which oh my God, hurt and was embarassing but I know it was necessary. He found a fissue which is a tear in the passage which is causing the bleeding and pain. He said it was caused by pregnancy he thinks. It doesnt explain the dark red mucus, so I am having to go in for a colonoscopy-a camera into my bowel. It is very uncomfortable so I will be heavily sedated, and I am so frightened

Anyone else had one?? Is it awful????? During the procedue, they are also going to inject botox around the tear, which will freeze the muscles, allowing it to heal and stop the pain and bright red bleeding.....

Oh Zoe, you poor thing.
However.... DO NOT WORRY, repeat, DO NOT WORRY!
I've had one. I was soooooo scared and totally dreading it and it turned out to be entirely painless and I wasn't even aware it was happening.
They sedated me but said I'd be awake but you are so heavily sedated that you are not aware of what's going on at all.
When I came round, it was all over and not even a sore bum!
So, no need to be frightened honestly. I had to walk myself down to the theatre and I saw the camera and TV screen and panicked but there was no need.
It's just like having a nice sleep!
Hope I've made you feel better. Let me know how you get on.
L xxx

By the way, the examination you've already had is a million times worse than the colonoscopy, trust me. xxx

Oh God Zoe, sorry about this. I keep thinking of more stuff to tell you.
Gross....sorry....you will get some laxatives to take before the procedure. They are HARDCORE
Make sure you are at home on the day you take the laxatives and do not go out. Seriously.
Might want to get yourself the latest Hello and OK! mags too to take to the bathroom with you!!   :rotfl:

Oh Lucy, thank you soooo much    That has made me feel so much better

I will look forward to a bit of a drug induced rest then

Hun have no words of advice, but wanted to wish you good luck.
Good job Lucy is here bless her cottons!

 Zoe
So glad Lucy's put your mind at ease, I know my cousin has similar issues with her back passage, and is in pain often, so it;s great to hear they're repairing it for you, and you'll soon be all better, very best wishes :cheer:

If there's anything wrong with my bum, I'll now where to come!! :rotfl:

You'll be fine hun, I had this and agree with LucyBee, you have nothing to worry about - The worst part was that they gave me an enema (sp?) before i went in and that was horrible - imagine going for the hottest curry in world and waking next day  :rotfl: the procedure itself i can't remember cos i was sedated but when i came round i wasn't sore or anything... good luck x

Hi Zoe,

I've not had a colonoscopy, but have had a flexible sigmoidoscopy which is similair but not quite as invasive. My friend has had a colonoscopy hough, and she was fine with it. They give you the same laxative for both - called Piccolax. VERY THOROUGH as Lucy said, defo need a day off work. I also recommend cool baby wipes and some sudocrem or similair for your comfort later in the day! Yes, get your Mum to have Ruby for you as you won't be straying far from the bathroom that day. You have to starve, so get some Bovril in if you like it,it's allowed and will take the edge off the hunger for you.

Try not to worry, you'll be fine! So much easier said than done though, eh?

I had mine done at the Royal, are you going there or Arrowe Park?

Forgot to say, I have quite bad IBS and get mucus when I wipe after I've been bad with it. Consultant told me mucus is almost always a sign of an inflamed bowel.

TMI but hope it makes you a little less scared

Thnks again girlies for your experiences

Jenni, I am going to Bupa, Murrayfield for it, I went there to see the consultant and he is doing the procedure. It being done on NHS, when my referral letter came through I could chose between Arrow Park, Clatterbridge and Bupa, so I went for the Bupa option!!!

Murrayfield is nice, OH has health insurance with work and he has had a few things done there. The staff are lovely, you'll be fine :D
