Got my scan date this morning!!!

Yippee!!!! i have been patiently waiting for it since my booking in with midewife. Its on the 22nd May...thats such a long time away!

One question why do i have to have a full bladder for it??

Congartulations! My scan is on the 19th May but i'm having an early pregnancy one because i had an eptopic a few years ago.

Anyway... you have to have a full bladder so that the scanner can see through to the baby without your empty bladder (muscle etc) in the way! That it really (its a bit more complex but i'm not a doctor or nurse so that'll have to do!).

A full bladder pushes your uterus up and so easier for the sonographer to get a better view.

I was told that because the bladder sits in front (?) of the uterus, that when its full it acts like a "window".

I've just googled and found this: NHS site

Why do I need a full bladder?

When the sonographer is scanning she will look at the baby through your bladder and if it is not full they may not be able to see it clearly, and you may have to have to come back.
