leahs got to have 2 different types of antibiotics 4 times daily and weve just been prescribed them after her having the drip.

but

how the heck do you get babies to take it?
she's to have 4ml of one type, and 2.5ml of the other.
weve to point the syringe towards her cheek and squirt it slowly.
but she wouldnt swallow it and it kept dripping back out of her mouth, so obviously she hasnt had the full dose :? :? :?

we cant put it in her bottle either because its to be taken an hour before feeding or on an empty stomach.... and tips???

I used to give th medicin and have a bottle of water handy to pop in ti wash down the nasty taste! or i would have sme milk.

Maisie had to have medication twice a day and I used to lie her almost flat and use the syringe that way as it was only liquid she never choked and after a while when I used to get the bottle of medicine she used to look forward to it!

I used to put the syringe in the middle of her tongue and she used to suck on it as though it was a teat and the medicine would go down that way.

Good Luck and I hope Leah is better soon.

Ellies on antibiotics, we've been lying her on her back then dripping it bit by bit with a syringe onto her tongue, it takes longer but makes it harder for them to push it out although she tries

so you think i should lie her down?
on the pack it says sit them upright so they dont choke

I do with Ellie, as ur only giving it a tiny bit at a time its pretty impossible for em to choke, I give her infacol like that b4 every feed & shes never choked!

I would try lying her down with only a small amount of the total amount in the syringe and if she takes it fine then put the other amount in the syringe and give it to her. I think the worst that could happen is that she might cough and splutter but I can't see her choking on a little bit of liquid. Put the syringe in the middle of the tongue and push the end of the syringe slowly so only a bit goes in at a time and it should go down smothly.

How about putting it in a teat of her bottle, that way she will drink it. just watch she doesnt take too much air though!
Hope she is better soon

With Medised you get a big spoon that has measurements for 2.5ml as well. I have found it easier if giving say 5 mls of medicine to give it in two lots of 2.5ml on a big spoon rather than a syringe.

So draw up 4mls of medicine, then squirt 2mls into a big spoon and give her that, then try again with the remaining 2mls etc. Seem to get more in that way!

Maia quite liked her antibiotics so she was pretty good at taking them!

Best of luck!

i gave her the nights dose (before i'd seen some of your replies) by lying her down and doing it, but she still spat it out and didnt get it all.

so i rang up and asked them if i could put it into her bottle cos shes not getting her full dose
but they said no cos she might not take her full bottle.... and next time, put a little bit in her mouth then blow in her face and their reaction to that is to swallow... so keep doing that til shes had her full dose.

if that doesnt work when her next one is due then i will try putting it in as she is feeding like midna said..... or try the spoon :)

alice used to only take hers from a spoon - we never had any luck with a syringe

and smile when you are giving it and make a fuss of her - if you frown and say nasty medicine or similar she will pick up on it even at that early age.....

ok we gave her her dose by squirting it into the side of her mouth when she was feeding.
she took it well and we got it all down her :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

but

my mum helped me... she fed her while i gave her the antibiotics... how am i gonna manage that at night   i couldnt prop her up anywhere could i

its a bit mean, but...

idk if u kno but me, my boyf and millie all had to hav antibiotics for chlamydia when millie was 2/3 months old

millie didnt really like the medicine which was 4 times a day, and spat some out, but i SO wanted her to get better, i felt SOOOO bad that i'd given it to her :(

so i'd squirt it in while she was crying (point it to her inner cheek, not down the back of her throat so she chokes) i'd do it in about 3 squirts not all at once (the dose was 2.5ml) and as she was tryna cry, to continue to cry she'd first have to swallow in order to take her next breath for crying.

i kno some might think it was evil to do that but its the only way i could make sure she swallowed it all and i just wanted her better so i did it

i can honestly say tho, doing that didnt seem to distress her any more than she was already from having to hav the medicine she didnt want- and nor has it disturbed her (she loves calpol now, if she's teething bad and i give it she sees the syringe and roots for it and sucks it!)
