iv been to my older sister's today. she just turned 29 yesterday, and she has 3 beautiful girls aged 2, 5 and 6 from her previous relationship which only ended recently, i think it was while i was pregnant so their youngest was less than a year old.

all girls were born by c-section so after the youngest was born she'd asked them to sterilize her "while theyre in there!" as 3 kids IS plenty i suppose for one couple, i certainly wouldnt want more than 3.

BUT, now she's in a new relationship, head over heels in love with him, but she's saying she thinks it'll end soon, coz she dont wanna hold him back as he has no kids and "he'll want a family of his own" etc. she feels she gotta let him go coz she cant have any more children and its really sad!

sterilization is so final isnt it, and i kno those contemplating it are gonna say "yes, but im SURE i dont want any more"- but im sure NO woman has that op who ISNT sure AT THE TIME are they?!!

my boyf's best mate's girlf is on a big waiting list to get hers reversed too coz he doesnt have any and they want a baby together and cant.

it'd be so much easier if my big sis and my boyf's mate's girlf just hadnt done it and got the injection instead or something wouldnt it!

just think harder bout it, thats all im gonna say!

My husband has just had his all clear from the vesectomy and we thought long and hard before he went for it and we were 100% sure our family was complete

i kno hun im sure u did thats what im saying people need to be 100% sure not 99% before they do it especially if theyre in their 20's which im guessing as u have a 16-year-old ur not; 29 my sisters age is still young as so many people have kids in their 30s. sorry hope i didnt offend u

Trix she can always go for IVF or something, I know sterilisation is the end of natural conception (well, miracles do happen!!) but there are alternatives and she's young enough for IVF to still have a high chance of working.

my OH wants me to get sterilised, told him if he wants something permanent he can get a vasectomy, funnily enough he's not up for that

See sig below, Hubbys vasectomy didnt work AND he had the all clear from the hospital!

I was gutted and tbh my mental health has suffered up until about the 20 week scan but couldnt go ahead with the termination we had booked, being very ill in tri1 didnt help either

We were 100% not wanting anymore kids and had factored into the equation what if we seperate and start a relationship with someone who wants kids.

Im glad we have this LO now but I am definatley going to be done aswell once I have had this one.

I hope your sister is sucessful in getting the LO she desperately wants though and you have given sound advice to others, just to add that sometimes its not always fool proof!!

Me and my dh were speaking about this the other day. We don't want anymore children after this baby but have both said we will wait at least 10 years before we permantly stop us from having children. I'm only 22 and my dh is 26 so in 10 years we could decide we both want more children or we could like in the original post case have split, got new partners and want to have children with them. You never know what the future holds! I will never do anything permanant until I am 100% sure.

hi there i was streilized last year and was 100% sure we never wanted any more children. The main desion was because i suffered very bad pnd with my first and did not want to put my family through it again, i only got it slighty with my second, but the thought of havin it again scares me and OH. funnily enough though since being sterilized i am not a bit broody.

Tell me about it - DHs snip 25 years ago is not helping my ttcing one bit  :D

Incidentally it may be different in different regions - but we are not entitled to any help tccing as I have a child already - they are getting stricter on not paying for reversals or any fertility treatments where infertility is due to sterilisation. We never considered reversal - but I did ask for tests and was told no - only basic blood tests to check my hormone levels.

I would never even consider it unless for health reasons.

I mean I am not planning on popping out kids forever, but I just couldnt go through with it.

My friend had to fork out £2k so her and her hubby could reverse his vasectomy. They decided to get one done after their first child was born (now 7 years old) as he had 2 kids from a previous relationship. After a few years they decided they wanted another baby so had to pay. We all told them they were crazy at the time but they obviously didnt listen to us. Im happy to say my friend is now 15 weeks pregnant :cheer:

My OH had a vasectomy before I met him... never got it reversed and now we have 3 kids!
