So ive been fighting my Employment Support Allowance since like.. Last November. I FINALLY get a date for the tribunal.. Guess when it is..

6th of freakin December, 3 days before my due date, and they KNOW im pregnant!!!

I reckon they set it then cause thye knew id probably not be able to make it, and then they can drag it out longer and leave me poor for another f***ing year.

Off to glasgow today (Yeah Edinburgh Council's tribunal service is in glasgow, Go figure) to try and get it changed or something.

to be fair, they're probs rushed off their feet and have got you in the first available slot! i'm sure its nothing personal :flower:

Aw hun, that sucks. Go kick some arse with your hormones! Is there anyone you can take with your for support?

Well see what they do, Is they refuse Income Support/Employment Support/Disability living allowance requests the first time round, so that people are re-reffered they are commission based. More requests that come in, more money in their pockets.

So as for being rushed off their feet.. THEY have created the backlog by throwing people back all the time. I have no sympathy.

Spoke to someone at the offices today, they said that the 6th wasnt a definate date anyway, And it will probably end up being later than that, And they will send me a letter with a new date in a few weeks.

So fab.. Newborn baby and this to deal with. Ohwell couple grand backpayments! heh

is this the benefit they brought in to replace incapacity benefit? xx

Indeed!

Changes to benefits if you are ill or disabled

For new claims made from October 2008 onward, Employment and Support Allowance replaced:
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Income Support paid because of an illness or disability
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
If you still receive Incapacity Benefit or Income Support paid because of an illness or disability, your claim will be reviewed by Jobcentre Plus between October 2010 and 2014.

Hmmmmmmm. There is usually some job that people can do even when disabled and i think the government is cracking down on people claiming it when they could actually work :yay:

Some people genuinley cant find a job that will suit them due to certain disabilities but i know a woman who had a leg amputated and was furious that the government stopped her benefil but i don't see why she cant sit a desk like the rest of us and do admin work xx

I agree I think some occasions people use it as an excuse I know there are genuine cases but there are some tryers out there I would love to be paid for staying home xx

Thats true Toonlass..

But even with disability discrimination acts in place, many employers will find loopholes to avoid employing disabled people. And disability is a spectrum. The people that have the hardest time are the ones with mental/social disability rather than a physical health problem.

I am happy to admit that I can work, in the right circumstance, But that is the problem. As is the case for many people in Incap. There just arent enough jobs suibtable for the wide range of issues that people are dealing with.

There is a non profit business in my local area that run a cardboard box factory they mainly employ people with learning difficulties like downs syndrome, various disabilities and people who have been unemployed a long time just to give them a chance. I take my hat off to them all!!

I suffer from mental dissabilities in the way of bi polar, stress, OCD etc i go to work and earn my crust. (even tho i am actually better off not working due to child care costs but thats another story) I rarely ring in sick and if i do its coz i physically cant work. I honestly couldn't spend the rest of my days not working, it would drive me into a deeper depression. I like to spend money and spoil my kids, it makes me happy but to do that i have to put up with work and earn the cash iykwim. xx

incapacity benefit winds me up tbh! going off on a tangent a bit, but there seems to be no hard and fast rule over who can claim! i know someone that gets it due to a medical condition and says he cant work cos of it! but my dad has the same condition, a hell of a lot worse, and also has 2 major health conditioins, but he still gets the strength every morning to drive over an hour to work and hold down a senior management role in a big company!! winds me up that does!

but yea, back on track, i'm with toon, i feel absolutely awful not working! and that cos i've got the kids and the childcare and everything is SO expensive its unreal! i cant imagine not working without the kids, you end up sitting on your own feeling worse and worse all day every day!

i hate not working its so boring
