Totally Fran A lil research goes along way!
I've also spoken to my mate about this (he has a degree in astropyshics) and he's reassured me there's nothing to worry about.
People loved to predict domesdays! Think Y2K, the hundreds of 'end of days' predictions throughout history, nostradamus, etc etc!

The title is very misleading (its sells news ) Of course the leading physicists haven't ignored the black hole theory. I doubt very much Stephen Hawkins thought 'bugger it'. I'll ignore that bit!'

There was an article on the BBC today about how people love to predict the end of the world..................its been happening since the beginning of time. I can't find it though!

I for one, got very drunk on Y2K. Luckily my OH is a programmer so I knew it was all rubbish!

I'm not imagining the world to end tomorrow...I find the way the press have put it across scary, as in their lack of inputting any real facts and that they have put it out there in this contex with little explination of the research behind it!

There was a guy on This Morning today who is part of the team conducting this experiment and he was assuring that no damage will be done. But few press seem to want to put that across!

yeah i hate how they do that to sell more..and scare everyone in the process with a story full of assumptions and no real fact!! i would have expected it from the sun or the star but not more respected papers.

I agree, definately. The first time I read about CERN quite a while back, it really scared me. Thats because of the way the 'news' had written about it. Luckily we now have the internet so I can research it myself. Also I do have a very close friend who is in the know (he's taking me out to watch the footie tomorrow night, so if he's not worried nor am I! )

The way the media reports anything these days leaves alot to be desired. There is so much going on in this world that we are not made aware off. Wars, rapes, famines etc.
So much that is news worthy and yet our tabloids are full of the lastest celeb gossip. Its a sad world that we live in when a celeb wedding gets more 'news' coverage than people dying in war torn countries etc etc
Buts thats a whole different debate!

I'm glad you have said that! Been trying to open OHs eyes up to that for ages and telling him there is so much that we aren't told, that many people like him are 'blinkered' as to what the real bigger picture is. Sometimes distraction by entertainment is welcome, but at least give the facts and reality too.

Im sure I read somewere they have calculated in 2028 a astoried is going to hit the earth and end us totally?!!!!!! that was a few years back!

One thing did you know nasa and space places wont send shuttles and rockets up between dec 30th and jan 2nd as they dont think the comps will handle the date change over!!!!!!!!!!!
