We have booked out the upstairs room of a pub with a buffet (£150 incl food for 30 ppl) and will just take a portable sterio to have a bit of background music on while people chat, no disco

No you don't but you are required to attend the church for a certain amout of time before they will christen you or your child.
Not strickly true, Oran is getting Christened at the Church my mum & dad attend and me and OH are not members their and have never been their in our lives but the Vicar will Christen Oran without us having to attend, he just wants to come to our house a few weeks before to speak to us. It is a methodist church, I know Catholics you have to attend the actual church at *most* of them
