After a bit of a rough 24 hours, our baby finally arrived!
We had to be in hospital for 5pm on Friday to begin induction. When we arrived, they did usual checks then we were told we were just waiting for a room on delivery. We were put on the trace a few times and baby was perfectly happy so they didn't seem to be in a rush. It was midnight before a room became available.
Just after midnight they broke my waters and things kicked off pretty much straight away. It started with bad period pains which progressively worse, then moved onto contractions. The pain was making me throw up even though I hadn't eaten much. I had diamorphine and Gas a and air but it wasn't really helping.
At 5am I asked for an epidural. I was completely out of it at this point and only have a vague recollection of them doing it It worked straight away and we managed to get a couple of hours sleep.
At 7am I was almost fully dilated but they wanted to wait just a bit longer.
At 10am I started pushing. The head was moving but not enough. Midwife said she thought baby was back to back. A consultant was brought in and said that they'd try forceps in theatre but a c section was looking likely. I was devastated as I'd wanted a vbac this time.
We were prepped for theatre and the epidural was topped up.
They did an episiotomy and managed to attach the forceps and after 3 pushes she was born. Hubby did say they said the third attempt was our last before a section. It was so bizarre as I didn't even feel like I was pushing.
Charlotte Anne Platt arrived 10 days overdue at 12:56pm weighing 8lbs 9.5oz.
