Right ladies can anyone tell me whats the do's and dont's about childrens car seats i know the laws changed etc but its really bugging me now as my mum has my 2 lo's when i work she now needs a different car seat for frankie as her carrier seat she has way outgrown and doesnt even fit into properly and lewis is getting a little big for his anyway she went to halfords to go out and buy him a hi -back booster seat but they advised her that she wouldnt be able to purchase one as he has to be atleast 4 before he an go in one and frankie needs to be in a rearward facing seat until she's atleast 18months old she basically they both have to be scrunched up and sitting in car seats they have outgrown until then? :x they also told her that if she was stopped by the police and they seen that they werent in the correct seats that the police can caution her or whatever they may do for not being right???

afaik car seats go by weight as long as they are in the right car seat for their weight its perfectly lawful...

oh wait did you say she went to halfrauds :rotfl: they dont know ANYTHING in there...once i went in for a dizzy cap and they didnt know what it was so i said distributor cap and he still didnt know!!!!!!!! i had to explain what it was...now u may not know what it is but they should!

never listen to halfrauds staff :rotfl:

ps: halfrauds is not a typo its a meaning;)

I think the child has to be in a rear facing carseat up until nine months or a certain weight which I am unsure of but it probably tells you on the car seat. I think after that you can get carseats which go up to four years and then after that you can get the ones that turn in to a booster seat as the child gets older. I think the child has to go on a booster seat up until the age of 11 now unless they are a certain height which again I am unsure of.

don't trust halfords, they fitted me a front facin car seat for josh when he was 1yr old (bought it from there on their advise)
anyway went back 1 yr later to get re-fitted coz someone undid all the straps, the man said 'this car seat should never have even been put in your astra, it doesn't even fit properly!'

apparantly if i had been in a tiny collision or even had to break heavily, the seat belt holding the car seat would have snapped with all the force

never trust them again i won't.
they even got it wrong about rear facing car seats, babies arn'y in them till 18 mths
