hi my hubby and i have been ttc for 2 years he has dont a test on his semen we are still waiting for the docts appointment can someone please help me to understand these results please.

Provider specimen comments: LOW progressive and total motility. LOW NORMAL FORMS

Semen volume (492) : 2.2 mL [1.5-15.0]
sperm concetration (4936) 18.0 10*6/mL [15.0-200.0]
Sperm motility (49B) : NORALITY BELOW RANGE :13% [40.0-100.0] BELOW LOW REFERENCE LIMIT
Sperm motility (49B) : NORALITY BELOW RANGE :9% [32.0-100.0] BELOW LOW REFERENCE LIMIT
Density of morphologically normal and motile sperm (49C) BELOW RANGE :1.0%[4.0-100.0] BELOW LOE REFERANCE LIMIT
CELL COUNT : <1 10*6/mL

It looks like the figures in brackets are the normal range. E.g. Semen volume is 2.2 ml , a normal range is between 1.5-15 ml so that is a normal result etc. Hopefully gp will provide more information, all the best xx

It looks like there is a problem with his sperm motility and sperm count, it's below low reference range. I would get him on Wellman conception vitamins, I've read that it can double sperm count. Does he smoke by any chance ?. x

Hi SoniaJ, I'm with lillith, it does look like there is a motility issue, however, don't despair as actually this is something that can be easily rectified! It looks as if morphology could be too, this is the percentage of normal shaped sperm. Really they look for this to be around 8%.. and his is 1%, again, this can be easily rectified with vitamins, diet and exercise!

Get him on wellman pronto like lillith said, and also get him to take a separate vitamin C supplement as vit C is great for sperm quality. Does he exercise much as this can really really help too!?

Also remember, anything you start doing now wont necessarily come to fruition for 3 months, same as with a woman's eggs. Swimmers take 3 months to develop into the ones that meet your wee egg, so if you don't see results straight away don't fret it takes time! I know that's the worst thing to hear, but it will pass quickly!

Not to give you false hope but as a little positive story, my husband and I tried for 3 years, with 1 MC, another year after the MC still nothing was happening so we were referred for ivf. My husband lost 2 stone at Christmas and took vitamins every day and ate well, and by March (3 months later) I got my bfp, naturally. I'm not saying that's all it was as his sample had been assessed as normal but it had to have helped! Good luck! x
