I had a reduction done about 8 years ago and was told that I wouldn't be able to breast feed but they re-attached the nipples with no problems and now i'm pregnant my breasts are very sore and my nipples are very sensitive.

Have any of you had a breast reduction and been able to breast feed?

I haven't but I was watching a baby programme with a woman who'd had it done and managed to breastfeed succesfully. They said on the programme that it can take years but it's possible for the nipple to become functional again and attatch itself to tubes that lead to the milk ducts over time.

My friend had a reduction, Also around 8-9 years ago and she has BF her 2 kids :)

I think it depends if they totally take the nipple off and reattach it or if they just move it but it is still attached when they do it. I could be wrong though :)

I had a BR and my breasts were very full and sore when pregnant but when the time come to try BF my son there was nothing coming out. The BF support team at the hosp were very good in helping me try but it just wasn't going to happen.

I had always said to my myself if i can BF its a bonus if not then i wont let it get me down. My son is a happy little guzzler and seems very content.

Thanks ladies. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see whether I can or not.

When I had my BR they moved the nipple up but it was still attached and I never had rejection issues. It would be nice to be able to breast feed just for passing on my immunities but if it doesn't happen then I won't be too upset.

When I had it done I didn't want kids so never thought about it!!

I had a BR 7 years before having Flodlington, and I never tried to breastfeed as the midwives I spoke to and the doctors all had a good poke round and said there was no way I was going to be able to breatfeed - the midwife I spoke to at the unit in which I gave birth said that she'd delivered probably 10 babies to BR women who'd tried to breastfeed and none had been successful.

HOWEVER, a week after I gave birth my milk came in BIG STYLEEEE and leaked everywhere for about 4 weeks. I had to wear a bra and breastpads all the time, and I got mastitis. I'm convinced I could have breastfed and I'm ANGRY that I wasn't given the chance.

Basically, you won't know unless you try. So if you have ANY feeling that you might want to, insist on giving it a try but don't be surprised if you can't (I was told I was a 'medical miracle').

Excuse shoddy typing, I have TazKnee, it's a very serious and debilitating condition.

Oooh, also SuziQ is another PFer who had BR and wanted to breastfeed - might be worth PMing her too as I haven't seen her on the boards for a bit?

Good luck xxxx
