Hi girls - well I went to see my midwife today, and she is coming to my house on Tuesday to perform a membrane sweep if I haven't gone into labour naturally before hand - what are they like, how uncomfortable are they??
I also have to go to the hospital tomorrow first thing,my midwife said it is unlikely that they will keep me in tomorrow and start me,unless there is any problems, but they will more than likely give me an induction date of next Friday.

I am so down,I really wanted to know what it's like to go into labour naturally, but my little man just seems too comfy!I am having so many pains, and lots of discharge, but it's like he just won't budge!!Please keep everything crossed for me that something happens before Tuesday!

Hey hun,

Have you tried a DIY sweep?? go in and find your cervix, give it a jiggle, well actually sweep round in circles.
(don't tell MW you've done it though)!! lol

Other than that i don't know what to suggest, lots of walking made me feel alot of pressure down below which was obviously Jacks head pushing down, which thins the cervix. My waters went naturally after a long walk the night before the pressure was that bad after coming back i couldn't walk any longer.

My fingers are tightly crossed for you hun. I hope the sweep goes well for you but hopefully your bundle will have arrived by then

Try not to get too down about it. I know exactly how you feel tho, I was the same. I really wanted my labour to start naturally, my waters broke of their own accord but that was after i'd had a pessary, but then they put me on a drip to speed things up. Just try to stay positive & think about meeting your little 'un.

Well they arent exactly pleasant but not too bad either! i found it mostly uncomfortable and a little painful but its over really quickly, i was desperate to hurry it up so i was happy to do whatever!

dont know if it helped me or not. i had mine 4 days past due and had periody cramps for a couple of days and lost my plug over the next two. then my waters broke 4 days after the sweep. could have happened anyway or could have been the sweep!

good luck - hope you start soon

Have SEX, SEX and more SEX  !!! I'm convinced thats what worked for 1st time as I was a week late and the morning after the night of doing the deed, labour started!

Sorry about detail but you have to keep the little swimmers in there though!

Good luck otherwise. I never had a sweep so can't help you unfortunately!

:) Thanks for the replies, sorry I haven't replied back sooner - computer probs :wall:

When I went to the hospital on Friday, the doctor offered me the membrane sweep, and as she was a nice Dr,I said yes!
I didn't feel much,so I come out thinking "oh,I bet it hasn't done anything" but over Friday and Saturday I lost my mucus plug, but so far that's it
I am booked in for an induction on Friday if nothing happens,I just really hope something starts before then - I am so frustrated!! :wall:

Awww I totally sympathise hun, fingers crossed you are in labour right now!!!

Hello, thanks again for your replies, but I'm still here, with no signs of much else happening  On Friday when I had the sweep done, and they gave me my induction date,I was quite confident that I wouldn't have to be started, but as the days go by,I feel like it is very likely that I will have to be started....it is so frustrating,I desperately want to know what it is like to go into labour naturally

what did she do to you when you had the membrane sweep? it is to break your waters?
Hayley, the Doctor gave me an internal examination, she asked me to lie back with my feet together and let my knees flop to the side,it was the same position for when I have had smear tests. She then inserted her finger, and sweept around in a circular movement,to separate the membranes from the cervix. It didn't take long, seemed to be only a minute, and I could't feel anything really, but I am good at relaxing and blocking things out - I think if I had been tense,I would have felt uncomfortable.I then lost my plug over the Friday and Saturday.
HTH!!
