I'm hoping to use the birthing pool during labour, what do you wear? Nothing at all? Bikini top? T-shirt? Vest top?

Please share any water birth experiences!

I didn't give birth in the pool but I got in for a bit. I wore a sport type bra and a pair or bikini bottoms, if I was ready for pushing or whatever the the sports bra or binkini top would have been fine. You could wear a vest top or a thin long t shirt if you wanted or just be naked x

DS has weekly swimming lessons so I bought a pregnancy tankini with the addional plan of wearing it in the birthing pool - I like to get my money's worth haha! x

I was planning on using a pool for the birth of my daughter. Didn't actually get to, as she was born only 2 minutes after arriving at the hospital! I bought a bikini to wear so I could slip the bottoms off for the main event and someone could easily take the top off for me for skin to skin once she had arrived. But, best laid plans and all that - I didn't even have time to take my trousers off let alone get in my bikini!!lol!!

So glad this came up as I have been wondering the same thing, what do you wear if you give birth in the pool?
I saw a video the other day and the girl was wearing a nike sports bra-top only.

I guess for coveniece of being naked for giving birth and skin to skin, it would be best to have one of those bikinis that easily untie at the side and back.

I laboured at home in a birthing pool until 9cm. I just wore my husband's vest as I didn't want anything on my lower half at all once labour started. Felt restricted! We went to hospital to give birth due to meconium in my waters and concern baby may have ingested some so no water birth for me sadly but in hospital I was completely naked the whole time and honestly didn't give it a second thought :)

I was in the pool for the first stage and the pushing /birth stage.
I wore a pregnancy/ breastfeeding sleep bra. I wore nothing else. My labour was well established when I got in and I had no inhibitions about it. I hadn't planned an outfit, this is just what I happened to be wearing and it worked well.
The pool was amazing. Good luck, I hope you get a water birth.

I wanted to have a water birth for both of my children and I didn't get one with either. I was however naked from the waist down the entire labour even though i wasn't in the water so I'm sure just a bikini top or something in the water would work

When I birthed in the pool I was completely naked, I just didn't care. I loved the pool, I'm hoping for it this time round too

I just wore my bra in the water. I would have gone naked but my boobs were heavy and sore so I always kept on my maternity bra.

I wouldn't wear any panties though... what's the point? lol

Planned to wear a tankini without the bottoms since it is made for water. You can't obviously wear bottoms so they can check you with the mirror.

But was rushed in and didn't get in until after I started pushing. Midwives rushed to fill it once I was upset that I wasn't getting my birth plan.

Wear whatever you want but you probably won't care lol. Once the baby is out I was wandering about naked not caring at all! Never thought that would happen

P.s the pool is wonderful, the water helped my contractions big time and I can't recommend it enough. I was able pull my own baby up myself once her cord was checked . I'm planning on it again!! Xx

if you wish to retain as much dignity as possible , you can wear a vest and bikini bottoms and one of those 'bikini skirts' - even though the skirt might float up , you can untie the bottoms when you need to and when you come out of the water the skirt will protect your dignity....i wore the little skirt my whole labour last time , i am a very private person!

gymbabeliz hats off to you for being able to pull that off in labour!! Swim skirt is a great idea for op if shes worried about her privacy (as much as you be in labour)
I thought Id be concerned about privacy in the pool...then afterward i ended up in stirrups for stitches so that was that haha x
