Best compact digital camera

I'm looking for a decent digital camera for taking lots of photos of my 6week old boy

I currently use the camera on my iPhone 3GS but it's so slow that the moment has passed by time I get to take photo and also it's not the best quality.

Any recommendations would be great thanks. One of the main things I'd like is a fast reaction camera so that I don't miss him smiling or something funny he does

Thanks for quick reply, well, I would say maybe up to about £300ish or roundabouts. Could go more if it was really worth it (bonus from work!) but I think 300 would be enough as it really is just for taking photos of my baby

He said the Nikon 1 hun. The Nikons are what he uses at work and he swear by them. It got interchangeable lenses and really good image quality and it starts taking the pics before you press the shutter so you shouldn't miss anything important I think you can get them used off Amazon for just over £300 but brand new they'd be more hope this helps x

He also said that he would avoid a Sony as the image quality isn't great but he's looking at that from a professional point of view if you know what I mean? Like if I took pictures on a Sony it'd probably look ok to me but he wouldn't recommend them lol hope that makes sense. He said the best brands are Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm.
