Hi ladies,

Have a question regarding AFC count.

"Review of 3D volumes from her HSS scan confirmed AFC: foils. 1.1 + 1.0 + folls x8 (0.3 — 0.7 cm) sizes - Rt ovary ; folls x 6 (0.3 — 0.8 cm) sizes — Lt ovary."

I am not sure what this means? I assume 8 follicles seen on right ovary and 6 in left but what does the 1.1 + 1.0 mean. Does anyone know what this means in terms of IVF etc?

Thanks xx

anyone? :)

Just want to know if this is a normal result. Have stopped seeing the doctor that did the scan so not sure I can ask him about it..

sorry I don't know! it may be worth trying the doctor (unless he's going to charge you a lot of money to do so) ? xx

Something to do with ovary size or magnification or position? Could you ring reception if the doctor isn't available?

Thanks both of you. Will see if I can get more answers.

I am mainly asking since seems like my AFC is 14 ( which I don't think is great but no expert ?) and AMH high ( good ) and FSH ok as well around 6-7.

Which measurement is more accurate? Seems like my meds for IVF are based on my AMH level being good but if AFC is more important?

Thanks! :)

Antral Follicle count of 14 is ok, 10 to 20 is ideal. Older ladies can sometimes have less than 10 and if you have PCOS it can be more than 20. What was your AMH?

AMH was 41 pmol/l when I tested last year..

41 is on the higher side and I thought AFC and amh should be in line? confusing.

Yeah I thought so as my AFC was 17 and my AHM level was 17.9. Maybe a high AMH means you have a high egg reserve even though you have less follicles? I think it tests the number of immature eggs waiting to develop in all the follicles.

Thanks! No idea..

Hopefully its just that they can't see all the small follicles when doing the scan :)

Have done the AMH twice so that test is ok I think.

xx

While AMH can indicate egg reserve, a high AMH score can be an indicator of polycystic issues - if you have a high follicle count too then that may make sense?

If you are going on IVF treatment then you may need extra monitoring (scanning/blood tests) to ensure you don't develop OHSS.

Thanks tinselcat, in my case I don't have high follicle count ( more an average count ) but high AMH so the results are slightly conflicting and not sure which one is more correct?

Thanks :)
