I was just wondering what animals you guys may have rescued/adopted over your time...??

When living at home with my mum, dad and little brother...

Mum appeared home with a hedgehog, saying it looked as though it had been hit by a car, she was right, after taking it to the vets, it was given back to us with 3 legs!! Bless it. By then it had missed the hybernation time, so we kept it in the house until happy that it could survive on its own and all the other hoggys were out and about...! We had another headgehog after that too, a little TINY baby one that had become detached from hits mother in our garden... 5 days mum saw it lurking in the garden... so we fed it - they love dog food, thats what the vet told us to feed, so we put food out, but this tiny little one was the only one that appeared, again hybernation time had appeared, and this little one was about so we brought it in the house too, and looked after it... come summer, we let him go in the garden again!!

There was the time a mummy duck and loads of little ducklings came in the garden - SO CUTE! And the mummy duck and all the ducklings bar one left the garden... this was a damaged one :( So, again, off down the vets... we had to bath the baby bird in salt water for its wound on its foot every day - it swam in circles :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: bless!! It slept in a cage under my brothers lamp for warmth! It grew and grew, until it was in my little brothers sand pit, we'd emptyed and filled with water... the duck lived in my rabbit hutch (the rabbits had grown old and died years previously). The duck was not caged in or anything, it chose to stay there!! Then one day it was gone :( I do hope it flew away... Id hate to think of anything else poor thing!!

Christ, apart from that, the Cats used to bring in voles, shrews, mice... we always tried to save them by taking them off the cat. oooh, oooh, there was baby mice in our shed once... I was about... 8 or 9, and Id found these dead mice, two of them, tiny they were, all cold and hard, anyways, I was stroking them - they were so soft, and bloody hell they started moving!!! I cudnt believe it, it was like id revived these mice, anyway we were going the zoo in london that day, and I didnt want to leave these mice, so, took them in a box, along with a syringe with, milk I think...!? And fed them every so offten, kept them warm... Put them back in the shed though, as I could not keep them really. I hope they made it past then! I never found any dead mice in the shed so should have been OK!

Theres two cats mum has adopted, they just turn up, and look skraggely and mum cant help but feed them, next thing they are down the vets being neutered and having a chip put in and sleeping on my bleeding bed!!! :wall:

Theres one at the moment that will sit on the kitchen window sill and look in at us... its all black but its fat, so well fed from somewhere, and it beats up our two cats, so... mum dosent want to encourage it in the house. The other one is a scruffy, skinny cat that appears every two days or so STARVING so mum feeds it, she wants to keep that one bless it, but it seems happy to be a stray that gets fed!!

I think thats all the random animals etc we've come across... damn thats a long post - sorry! Didnt realise there was that much to write!!

when i was living at home we rescued loads of animals
we adopted a baby pegion, and when he was fully grown he went to a place where they have all different animals (where i was working at the time)
we rescued two cockiteils which were neglected, they had things thrown at them ect, and we have still got one of them and that was about 15 years ago
we adopted a few stray cats which lived to good ages
we took on a yorkshire terrier who was 8 months at the time when his owner passed away and he lived till he was 16 years old
we took on gerbils, hamsters, mice which no one wanted or were left outside to die
there is probley loads more we have taken in but really can't remember anymore atm

Ive grown up with lots of rescued cats and dogs,
also have lots of memories of my mum bringinng in injured birds, hegdehogs and nursing them back to health.
This is really mean but once when I was five I threw a stone at a bird and injured it  luckily my mum brought it home and it got it better.

 Uuummmm!!

Kids do things like that - atleast your mum fixed the birdie!! :)

I think its things like this that make you realise that there is good people out there too! As well as those idiots that hurt or abuse animals. There are those of us that bend over backwards to help them if we can!!

Can you feel the warmth and Love in this thread - :rotfl:

OMG where do i start, i have had everything from mice to horses, have worked in rescue for several years and although mostly foster cats and dogs the only thing i wouldnt take is spiders.
Last year we went to a flat in London where a lady had 19 cats and was only allowed 2 so we took the other 17 for her, they ALL lived in my house untill we rehomed them.
I have had 100's of dogs and usually take in whole litters of pups for the rescue as my 2 dogs are fab foster mums (see photos in other thread).
I was given a horse by someone who met me with is outside a block of flats in the center of a town once.
At the moment i have just my 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs (rescues) and a blind cat that i will rehome when the right home comes along (again a rescue i took in).
Most of the dogs come from death row out the pound but there are some genuine cases where people cant cope and rely on us to find the best homes, all the animals we take live in foster homes and not kennels (apart from the odd genuine case).

I also have qualifications in canine psychology and do the photography for rescue :D

Im currently slowlu turing my home into a rodent rescue centre :rotfl:

2 gerbils in the last couple days due to loook at 3 rats soon!

brought up, the useal cats, rats, hamters, rabbits, guniea pigs, basically anything needin a home or short term care came to us, even a bat till the bat centre could pick it up!!!!

Luckily it upset me after so was a good girl lol.
Animals especially cats and dogs become part of your family, i have many fond memories of growing up with pets.

I have adopted a horsfield Tortoise from the tortoise trust, he was living in a guinue pig cage with sawdust and fed pellet food, he now lives the life of riley in my house and garden and the fridge in the winter for hibernation and is only fed on weeds which is how it should be.

We love him soo soo much we brought a baby one too just before I found out I was pregnant.
