Had a blood test at my last midwife appointment and it turns out ive developed Anemia

Will have to take iron tablets.
Will explain why ive been a bit ... run down lately...
I dont eat much meat either so maybe thats one of the reasons...

And.. also could be why ive been craving ice lately... :rotfl: ... Apparently

Finally, some studies have found a link between severe iron-deficiency anemia and cravings for non-food substances such as ice, paper,

Has anyone else developed this or have it because ive heard its common for pregnancy to create this....

No idea about the ice and paper (?! paper?!) but just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear you've joined the low iron club - but the tablets should make you feel better soon

Thanx !

It also says you could develop a craving for clay....

cravings for non-food substances such as ice, paper, or clay (a condition known as pica). If you do have these cravings, don't give in to them,

:rotfl:

sorry to hear this sarah

the tablets will have you back to normal in no time though, although iirc, iron tablets make your poo black

hello
i craved coal and firelighters and toothpaste

if the iron tablets make you feel queasy they can give you gentler ones or you can take natural iron which you can buy from holland and barrett
flurodix helped me but alot of girls swear by spatone
see how you get on with docs tho, you will feel better in a few weeks

I'm one of the ones on SpaTone - love it!

With the added bonus that it makes me laugh every time I open a sachet to read "tear hear" I think I might email them and ask them to correct it!

I haven't had it but there are lots of others on the forum who have.

I have tried to avoid this by eating iron rich foods, believe it or not meat doesn't actually contain the most iron compared to some other foods. You will find chickpeas, spinach, beetroot, potatoes cooked with skins on, watermelon, green leafy veg such as cabbage, kidney beans, wholemeal bread and cereals all rich in iron.

Found this with some info on foods that contain iron

http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/irondeficiency/#elem220979

Also I just googled "iron rich foods" and theres loads of info on the typs of foods to eat.

Hope that helps

Yeh aneamia in pregnancy is really common and you should start to feel better once the iron gets into your system. I was aneamic when pregnant and it improved towards the end but then was aneamic again after the birth.

I've had this since about 20 weeks I think, and on iron tablets.

BEWARE!!! The first lot of tablets I got gave me green diarrhoea   which wasn't very nice! But got some different ones now which are ok. (Although you probably will have green/black stools that stick to the toilet pan  )
