ALL REFLUX MUM'S PLEASE READ!

Right, I have been researching the internet on reflux (as I do alot) and have discovered tomatoes are bad for reflux and stomach acid conditions.

When you wean your baby avoid this as it can make it worse. Alot of 7+ jars contain tomato's I have noticed, so if your baby still suffers then, avoid it.

Other things which can upset it (mainly in adults though I should imagine but just for reference) are alcohol, citrus fruits and juices, drinks containing caffeine, or spicy food.

Hope that helps someone!!

I personally will steer clear of them anyway as they can encourage some children to be badly behaved (they create almost ADHD symptoms). A myth maybe, but know of a few family friends who's kids were effected by them.

hi sorry to sound so thick, but is reflux when your sick alot??

Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER) or Reflux is the medical term used to describe a condition in which stomach contents - food and gastric acid - frequently flow back up out of the stomach into the esophagus. The food that comes up may or may not flow all the way out of the mouth. It may be forceful vomiting which rapidly and completely empties the stomach, or it can be more like a "wet burp" that doesn't reach the mouth.

Taken from www.reflux.org/reflux - a very useless read about reflux and GERD/GER.

My partner is almost sick after every meal, he was told it was IBS after numerous tablets which none worked he is still the same, is reflux just for babies or can adults suffer from it too?? ive even thought he was balimic (sp) but he swears he's not, he says he's in pain until hes sick!
anyway i just thought ide ask
thanks x

Im convinced Ella has reflux, she is sick from one bottle to the next, sometimes gets a bit irritable like she is in pain then is sick and is ok. She does those "wet burps" aswell. Its just constant shes alwyas sick and Im always mopping it up lol. HV said the doc wont do anythnig for it at this age, but do u think I should ignore her and make a docs appointment anyway?

Callum's biggest triggers at 8 are chocolate and anything fatty (cheese, fried food). A lot of foods give him heartburn, but it only comes all the way back up with choclate and fatty stuff.

Sophie, adults have it too. With reflux, it's not really vomitting when you gag and can feel the tummy contracting, it's more like the stomach just empties (I'm crap at explaining). Callum doesn't even realise it's happening until he has a mouthful of stomach contents, he doesn't get any pain when he's sick, his worst pain is a couple of hours after eating his triggers. Where does your OH get the pain?

Lauz, if you take her to the docs, it won't do any harm, but don't get disheartened if he/she won't do anything. It does improve over time and they learn to deal with it themselves, but unless they're losing weight and / or have other problems because of the reflux, most doctors don't see it as a problem :( .

yeh thats what I though tracy, she is fine in herself and most definatly gaining weight, I suppose it more of an inconvienience to me more than anything because of all the dirty washing lol.

I've given up with the washing, he goes au naturel on the top half until we need to go somewhere. He's made an attachment to his sicky towels now - he's started holding them in a certain way, doesn't like it if we take them away and prefers them once they're damp  ewwwwwww

How odd Damien does the same with his muslin squares

aww cute, you could get him a comfort blanket and try to give him that instead.

LOL nah he can have his sick blanket, he'll on be sick on the comforter anyway! Look so cute when he falls asleep holding the corners of it

i do hope matthew gets rid of his reflux before he starts eating baby food if not i'll stay clear of tomotoes thanx :)

haha eva does that too :D

i'm starting to think she might have reflux too. she is always always sick. i can't leave her without a bib on because she is sick all through the day. my mam said i was a really sickly baby.

is there a difference between a sickly baby and reflux or is it all the same thing?

We were sat outside with the neighbours last night, one of them had hold of Alex. When he was sicking up milk she kept saying 'oooooo what a sicky baby', once it had turned into stomach acid sick an hour later, she said 'oh, he's got reflux' and handed him back :( .

I think everybody has a level of sickiness they accept as normal - my neighbours was obviously the stomach acid, but the limit for most doctors is when it causes other problems.

Thomas is always sick. He did that with my breast milk, and now with his formula milk. He will be sick a few times in between feeds, he needs to be changed a few times in the day. I do not know either if it is reflux or just him being a sicky baby but this problem did not concern anybody amongst the medical system. Anyway, is there anything you can do to cure it or you just have to live with it avoiding certain foods?
