Hey ladies

I am breastfeeding Ella but hubby's making us a lovely dinner Saturday (early valentines) and i'd REALLY like a glass of wine or two as i've not had a drink at all since finding out I was pregnant.

I just don't know how this will affect my milk? I have a pump so can express ... but not sure whether the alcohol will still be in my milk until they're emptied... should i express after i've had a drink then throw it away? Will it make much of a difference to my milk if it's just a glass or two? How long will it take for the alcohol to have gone from my system?

Sorry to fire a load of questions, just have no idea what the effect will be ... don't want a drunken (or hungover) baby :eh: !!

Thanks in advance  x

On new years eve I fed Lizzie to as near as midnight as possible and had a couple of glasses to see in the new year. She then fed again at about 3am and seemed absolutely fine to me! She would have been about 2 weeks old then I think.

I've had a couple of cheeky drinks and not noticed anything. If I drink after she's in bed I know there is 4/5 hours between feeds.

I have the odd drink too. Only ever 1 or 2 but if hasn't done mine any harm x

Thanks for that link becky :)

It's good to know a few of you have not noticed a difference after one or two... if i limit it to that i guess it should be fine :)

Same here, I've had the odd one or two and Ella has been fine :-)

ive read that alcohol leaves breastmilk at the same rate it leaves your bloodstream. and that only a little tiny bit goes into the breastmilk any way. if your alright to drive, then your alright to feed.
enjoy hun xxx

That's what I thought too, so it takes an hour per unit to leave your system x

Over Christmas I was having the odd glass or two and G was fine. I just try to have a glass as soon after a feed as possible so it was clear of/almost clear of my bloodstream before next feed. Have a nice meal :)

Fab bit of info ... Will investigate units in a glass of wine as i am a unit dunce!!

Depends on the wine but a big glass (250ml) is just over 3 units.
