hiya

im currently looking for a new job and DESPERATLY need to get out of my current one because it is making me unbelievably (sp?) miserable. we are TTC and i think i may now be pregnant. my OH mentioned that if im pregnant no employer will take me on. is this true? if so what do i do?!?

You technically do not need to tell employers til 15 weeks before your due date. But i don't know how it would work for maternity pay.

an employer cannot discriminate against you because you are pregnant, however if you are pregnant I'd think about chucking the current job in, see what maternity benefits you get with them, there is also the SMP aspect which you may not qualify for with a new employer.

good luck though

Plenty of people on this forum have got a new job while pregnant. As someone said, you don't have to tell them if you don't want to until later on in pregnancy.
If you are already pregnant when you start a job then you are not entitled to SMP. You would still get MA if you have worked 26 weeks out of the last 66 weeks. But if your current employer pays above SMP you would be better off staying.

I totally relate to you. I am in a job I really don't like (have a really disorganised and frustrating boss)and feel like I can't leave now I'm pregnant. I was job hunting before and it was slow going however it feels like there's light at the end of the tunnel now as I actually have a leaving date. Is there anyone at your work or in HR you can talk to confidentially about this? When I had my Maternity assessment they asked if my job stressed me out. I didn't hold back on how I felt about this and I intend to make sure I'm monitoring my stress levels at all times and will report it if I think I'm being put under unnesscessary pressure. I'm sorry you feel like this, I think it's awful that you're so miserable. At times it does make me feel so trapped.
