So...

Fess up, who still enjoys a glass of wine or another alcoholic beverage of their choice once or twice a week? Im probably stepping on very dangerous ground here  but Il ask anyway.

For the first 3 months I didnt touch any drink but I have to say I had a lovely glass of wine the other night with my dinner. I know for one I shall be having a Snowball on xmas day too.

Lets discuss.... :)

Not for me!! Ive had no alcohol at all since I found out!! I have had a few non-alcoholic beers (3 in total!!) but after watching the programme on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome before I fell pregnant Ive just been completely put off it! A nice bottle of Schloer for me on xmas day!!! :D

I'm the same as Soulem on this one, I haven't had anything alcoholic to drink at all.

me too, ive had no alcohol what so ever since i found out

Me.
I have a couple/3 units a week.

Thing is the ...
Department of health say 0.
Another health body say 1 unit a day.
A book that I have suggests 1 to 2 units once or twice a week.

IF you can , its good to have nothing.
If you can't, the odd glass of wine, or half lager is ok, in my eyes.

I spoke to a a lot of people that had had babies about this, and yeh, they had the odd glass of wine, beer, champers here and there. One girl did have her glass of wine with dinner everynight, which was probably more than 1 uint.

Its each to their own really. People disagree and people agree..

Its completely up to you. But obviously, if you drink no alcohol , then it is better for baby!

But, yes, I will more than likely be having 1 or 2 units of champers on xmas day, and new years eve.

xx

me ive had a few and will continue to do so without feeling bad about it.
i quit smoking when i found out so im not pumping toxins into my baby evferyday.
i work bleeding hard all week keeping the place tidy and things like cooking fresh meals so on a friday night i like to relax with my hubby and have a cold can of carling 2.4 units
i do that everyweek
i have non alcholic beer (becks) but i like carling lol and they only do a half percent which i cant find anywhere near us :)
i have traded in my carling for a wkd if we are out (bowlplex/pub)
xmas day i will have one or two drinks with my dinner
it is up to the person who is carrying the baby though
manda xx

I'll have a small glass of wine diluted with soda water once every couple of weeks. I drank loads before I was pregnant and smoked so I don't think i unit, once a fortnight is too bad. In my moms day, they recommended 1/2 a stout a day for the iron. Needless to say, medecine has moved on and I'm not suggesting anyone should guzzle guiness every day but an occasional treat I'm sure won't hurt.

I had a glass of champagne on my birthday and a wine a couple of times since i found out, i'm not a big drinker anyway but i will be having a glass of champagne xmas day too, i think sense is called for and as long as its a small amount i dont think its a problem... :cheer:

Im not a big drinker anyways, but have had a a tiny bit of apple sourz and some sangria.
Dont think its bad if youre not having it everyday...xmas is a special occasion so I might have something - but if I dont, then Im not gonna cry about it

I figured it like this:

There are mixed messages and as I don't think that's a plot to confuse us I reckon it's because it's not something anyone really knows for certain YET. But they do know that alcohol is capable of causing very serious defects - they just don't know exactly where the threshold is before that happens.

I read an article when my friend was preggy in 2006 about possible connections between more moderate drinking (mothers to be) and ADHD (their kids) - it isn't a proven link (hey - wouldn't be great if life came that simple?) but it is quite serious research.

It's not something I'd moralise on, but I figure that's why midwives, GP's and the givernment said that their advice should be to have none. I certainly don't buy it that they did that without any research base - I mean that just doesn't make sense, someone waking up one morning and saying 'Why don't we change the advice on alcohol? No reason to, but I thought we may as well.' I think they won't speak about the research because there are splits, and they have been saying 2 units a week for decades - imagine the law suits if they SHOULD have known that was bad advice?

So for me it's none, and I've learned a ton about how booze orientated our way of life is. I'm not going back to that, I want my kid to know they can socialise without it and CHOOSE when and how much rather than it just be a given for any adult.

I didn't drink before I became pregnant and I've not drunk since. Its not biggie for me. I stopped enjoying alcohol years ago socially and tbh I'm just as happy going out drinking OJ or something. I think that when I went off alcohol it was just that, I got bored of it and that was it.

Also my hubby doesn't really drink either. Never at home and only occasionally has a couple in the pub (usually works out about once every 3 months at that).

I long ago got used to people thinking I was strange for not drinking when out and about. In more recent times though it seems to have become more acceptable which is nice.

My one concession is a drop of wine in cooking every now and again for flavour.

I think its up to the individual as to what the do when pregnant. Each to their own.

Im enjoying plently of alcohol free beer (by the way cobra alcohol free is just the best alcohol free beer i have ever tasted!)

Im probably going to have a glass of champane on my birthday though

i used 2 b a very big drinker, only a few glasses of wine in the wk but on a wk end id binge drink, i no its bad 4 u but i just got in2 the habit, u wudnt believe how much i used 2 drink

i always thawt it wud kill me givin up but i havnt touched a drop since, i hav a fridge full of beer, wine, spirits but i havnt even fancied it so far

im sure a couple of drinks a week wudnt harm peeps but like manda sed its up 2 who is carrying the baby

It's funny, but after 9 months of no booze, just one small glass of wine now goes to my head!! :rotfl:

I didn't drink anything during the first 4 months of pregnancy, then went through a phase of having a 1/2 a glass - 1 glass of Lambrini a week but now I don't drink atall. I also smoked like a train before pregnancy but stopped about a week before I found out, but during my 5th month I craved fags and alcohol. There is no way I am going to smoke while I'm pregnant, and I'm going to try my hardest not to when she's born aswell, but I caved with the alcohol because there's so many different opinions..I figured 1 glass a week wouldn't hurt..but now I've gone off it again! I will have 1 glass of champagne on Christmas Day and a Bucks Fizz at New Years.

I'm personally laying off it too but I'm looking forward to the day when 1 glass of wine goes straight to my head. I'm going to be a proper cheap date

Part of my reason for not drinking now is that I binged so much in the first 11 weeks (before I knew I was pg) that when I added it up it was pretty scary. Since I started thinking about how alcohol would be going straight through my placenta and feeding the babs, I've just not felt like it. It's bad enough having a hangover yourself.... Having said that, if I get to a stage when I really, really fancy a little glass of something I think I'll probably go for it.

Each to her own IMO, just like every other aspect of pregnancy :D

Not drinking does not bother me, as I didn't drink a lot before I was pregnant, just the odd glass of wine here and there.

However I did have a small glass of red wine on my birthday followed by a large glass of iced water and a glass of lemonade to help dilute it. I will probably have a small glass of wine on christmas day as well or a spritzer.

i go 2 the footy every wk wiv my mates, hav dun since i was a kid

all my mates r big drinkers and make a full/day nite of it, we r out from 11 in the mornin til 11 at nite so wen u add up that uve had 16 odd pints, some times even 20!! its shockin but only 1 and a bit an hour so u dont realise it

a couple of months ago i was at the footy and drinkin as normal and started 2 feel a bit weird, it was a new pub so blamed it on the beer as u do, the nxt day i felt awful, unusual 4 me as i always feel fine the nxt day

i now no it was b'cus i was pregnant :( obviously i had no idea i was expecting at the time but i still feel guilty 4 it :(

i havnt touched alcohol since i found out apart from non alcohol beers and even they make me feel ill, i may hav a glass of wine xmas but tbh just dont fancy it at the mo

I've gotten addicted to Shandy... and I can't stand beer.... They do the most fantastic non alcoholic beer over here... which you can't taste the difference... and I just have that with Sprite.. and it's gorgeous.. .only now its harassing my heartburn.. but it's sooooooo addictive... and I've chosen the non alcoholic alternative because I am having it almost everyday...

I don't believe that the occasional alcoholic drink effects the unborn baby... I think we handle more dangerous things each day (such as bleach, underarm deodorant, paint etc) than the occasional drink... I have had alcohol while pregnant... I had a glass of champagne at my SIL wedding, and I will have a glass of wine this weekend as it's my first wedding anniversary and we are going to a posh restaurant... and I will be having a glass of wine/champagne (undecided yet) on xmas eve when both my parents and DH's parents go out for our xmas meal...

I don't like getting drunk... never have done.. so for me its not an issue... but many women here drink all through their pregnancy and the instances of FAS and ADHD are far lower... but people here don't binge drink in the same way.... and I think its the regular binging or the daily drinking that causes the build up of toxins which harm the baby..

But tbh since getting pregnant, drinking even small amounts of alcohol makes me feel funny so I've kinda gone off it...

When I was pregnant with Brody I had the odd beer or glass of wine.

This time I haven't had any, not cos of the new rule (which has been changed anyway now AGAIN  ) but cos I just don't fancy it like i did when I was preg with Brody.
