What is a sweep? I have heard of it and tried looking it up online and cant find anything. What does it involve, is it painful?
hi hun, i only found out myself a few weeks ago too and this is my 3rd baby! lol its wehre the midwife checks to see if your cervix is dilateing and thining, if it is, then they will give you a sweep, which involes putting there fingers in to your cervix (if open) and then running them around the edge and seperateing it from the bag of waters and stretching your cervix slightly to try to encourage labour. it doesnt hurt but it is uncomfy. i think thats right, thats what i understood it to be anyway
Yep, that's what I've been told too. Apparently they went 'out of style' for a while, but are back 'in' again now that more maternity units are midwife led. Sounds pretty uncomfortable to me!!!
I had one today and didn't know she was doing it until she told me!! Just casually chatting away- Lol It's less than having a smear
