Hello!

I'm not pregnant or trying, but I am going to be an auntie in August for the first time and I'm very excited!

I want to get my sister a present that perhaps she hasn't thought of, or no one else has thought of, and I would really like your help - what was the best present you got as a new mum? I'm sure she'll be inundated with babygros and the "usual" presents, but I just wondered if there was anything that you got that was completely perfect for either you or your little one, and you now wonder how you would have lived without it!

Thank you in advance,

Hannah

A pamper day just for Mum at a local spa ;)

A Cuddledry towel - they really are the best thing for bathing a newborn, hands free! Im still using mine for Rosie :)

How lovely of you to want to do something really thoughtful - ur sister is really lucky!

A photo session for the new baby?

Nappy cake?!

One of the best presents we got was a baby sleeping bag - she might not use it right from the start but my boys were in them from the first few weeks and are great as you don't need to worry about trhem kicking blankets off. You'd need to make sure you get the right tog rating for the time of year (2.5 for winter, 1.0 for summer usually, unless the nursery is exceptionally hot or cold)

my sister got us a bouncy chair and it was the best present we got!! both my girls were never fans of lying down and like sitting in it looking about. but she might already have one of them or be planning on getting one x

A fisher price sea horse toy. Its like a cuddly toy but its belly has a gentle light and it plays soothing tunes with water noises in the back ground. I got given one when jacob was born and it is priceless!! He has slept with it every night and he loves it. You can get them from argos i think, in pink or blue xx

I love them - gorgeous! :) x

I was given a couple of baskets full of bits and bobs for AJ.
Clothes, a toy, wipes, teether, sippy cup, baby scissors, etc. my sister even included a pack of Mat pads in hers for Mummy!

The gifts were lovely but they didnt stay in the baskets...I emptied them and used them for changing essentials in each room. One in the lounge and one in the bedroom (inc travel change mat so no lugging the big one).

Oooh someone gave us one of those for Toby too and it's great! And the music doesn't seem to get annoying like every other musical toy on earth

I don't have a sister but if my best mate had a baby I have to get her something for herself because hardly anyone thinks of that. I think I'd get her vouchers for a hair-do, massage or even her favourite clothes shop. After each of my pregnancies I had to remind myself that I could look still look and feel good about myself. You spend so long in whatever crappy maternity clothes you can get your hands on or fit into that your own personal style can end up going by the way-side a bit.

The best presents I received for my babies were cuddly toys which they'll hopefully keep forever and some outfits which I still can't bear to part with. The useful stuff was helpful but it's the things you can treasure which bring the most joy.

When SIL had her baby I did a personalised cross-stitch with her name, D.O.B. and weight on it. It came from hobby-craft and took me about 100 hours was it was totally worth doing.

Thank you all so much! This has been really helpful, pleeeeease keep them coming, I love to hear all your ideas.

Wow, I've just had a look at those, they're incredible! What a fab idea. Plus my sister is obsessed with cupcakes and cakes (baking them too) so it's perfect, thank you! X

I totally agree, we have one for my 5 month old daughter and she goes to sleep by herself watching the glowing tummy and listening to the music. It stays on for 5 mins too, much longer than other ones

xx
