What is a sweep?

Sorry to be a complete dilbert but Ive seen them talked about loads for Midna and I dont know what one is or how its done.

Please enlighten me fellow pregnant ladies.....

Its just like having an internal done - mine was uncomfortable but didn't hurt and I had the baby with 24 hours.

when i first read about them i kept reading 'i'm off for a sweep' etc. i kept thinking of all these preg ladies sweeping their gardens as i thought the action brought on the labour.

The midwife sweeps her finger around to hopefully get the cervix to open.

i can just see loads of women all going to the local hospital for a sweep of the grounds! there would be some bloody tidy hospitals!

I never knew that pregnancy was such a minefield of weird terms that I have never heard before!

People going on about "sweeps" and "shows".

I had started to think that all pregnant women had a fascination with Mary Poppins or sommat......
