ok this will be very long but will put all the details from start to when i left hospital.

so started having mild contractions on tuesday evening (28th june) kind of didnt know whether i was just imagining it or not.

carried on into wednesday morning but had midwife booked for 11.30 anyway for a sweep so thought i would wait to see what she said. got there and she could feel when i contracted and i was 1-2cms when she done my sweep. left there and pains started getting worse. went home to have something to eat etc.

it got to about 5pm and contractions were only about 5 mins apart and very strong all in my back so couldn't get comfy. rung triage and they said to go in. got there and i was still only 1-2cms. the midwife got me on gas and air and pulled my cervix forward which was amazing amount of pain. then i came home again.

9pm contractions were 3 mins apart and i was in agony with my back. called triage again but was told that they wouldn't check me again until 4 hours had passed since last time. so waited and went in at 10pm.

got there still only 1-2cm but i couldn't cope with the pain so was given pethadine and put on the ward. lee went home and i went to bed. started snoozing then suddenly contractions got even worse. tried to have a bath but didnt work. nurse examined me again at 2.30pm and i was 4cm (5cm during contractions) so got told to ring lee as was moving to delivery.

got on the gas and air and was dealing with it as much as i could. got examined at 7am and again was only 4-5cm. midwife said as i was so weak from not eating etc she wanted to put a drip in so i could get some fluids. also gave me another bout of pethadine.

midwife change over and again still struggling to cope with the contractions seemed to be coming about every minute although i cant really recall exactly. got examined at 11am as was 6-7cm. she said she wanted to give me something to help move me on so put something else through drip she recommended an epidural as it was going to make it all even more intense. so i agreed. she then broke my waters.

the intensitiy of the contractions was crazy now and i had the urge to push all the time but had to keep trying to stop it. i was still having to have gas and air as they only gave me enough epidural to cover me so i could still feel everything. they examined me at around 1pm and said that i was fully dilated but i wasn't to push for another hour. i had to be hooked up to monitor constantly as baby was getting distressed.

after about 15 mins i couldn't cope with the pressure and told them i had to just as a few more people entered the room. they told me that baby wasn't descending correctly and getting very distressed so were going to use the kiwi cup.

the put the cup on and after alot of hard pushing and a doctor pulling like it was a contest dainton was born at 1.50pm weighing 8lb 13oz a head circumfrence of 35.5 and 54cm long.

i had to be cut alot i wont go into details but it took at least half hour to be stitched up after the placenta was delivered. i had lost a lot of blood and the doctors seemed abit concerned however midwife said it looked normal amount.

anyway the rest of it was a nightmare.(as if that lot wasnt enough)i got up to have a wash and passed out. woke back up to a room full of people around me. they layed me back down and took some blood to see what my levels were like. came back at 7.9 when they were 11 before birth. they said they would see how it went overnight and take more blood in a few hours to test again.

friday arround midday they did this and it came back at 7.1 which is just above what they class as critical so they suggested i had a blood transfusion otherwise i could end up seriously ill. i took it very hard as i was scared etc having never had been in hospital before. so at 5pm fri evening i was sent to another part of the delivery suite for my blood transfusion which started around 7pm and finished around 2.30 am sat morning.

then i got moved to the ward. again blood pressure etc were being monitored and was taken at 6am.
(had gone from checking it every hour to every 4 which i saw as a good thing at least). i then had more blood taken at 6.30am and was told i would get results asap. midwife that was looking after me that day and said she would be back at 10am to do blood pressure and pulse checks etc again and i should be able to go home just after 3.

this is where it all went wrong i was then left and didnt see anyone until lee finally got annoyed and at 4.30pm went and had ago at the midwife as she was at reception. she said they were busy.we both had abit of a moan and i ended up telling them that whether bloods/pulse etc were normal or not i was going home.

finally got to leave at about 5.30pm. wooo hoooo.

whole experience was very upsetting and i am struggling to get over it. i have very swollen feet, alot of pain from being cut so much, am taking iron tablets to help blood levels and have 2 big lumps come up under my armpit. have now been home 2 days and haven't had a call from a midwife or health visitor to say when they will be round.

i wish it could have all been perfect but the main thing is that my little boy is defo perfection and i would do it all again to have him. sorry so long winded. xxx

Oooh huni, sounds like you've certainly had an unpleasant experience. I'm sure you're glad that you're now home. Congratulations and well done! x

I'm so sorry you had such a hard time. You have a beautiful baby boy to show for it - well done for staying so strong, I hope the midwife or HV get in contact with you soon hun x

Congratulations Hun.

Really think you should call your Midwife though, the swollen feet, lumps under your arms and the pain in the wounds are not good, you need to have someone check there is no infection.

It's possible that in the circumstances of your discharge from the ward the correct paperwork has not gone to the Midwife/HVs who should be checking on you right now.

I hope nothing is wrong though

Congratulations!!! Hope you start to feel better soon!! xx

Bless you, sounds like you had a right hard time of it - at least your little man is here safe and sound; now ring your midwife / GP and ask for someone to start looking after you!

x

Parts of your story sound like my labour, minus the scary bit at the end for you! Congratulations hun! :) x

My word, hope you are recovering now. And congrats again on your little man x

This sounds exactly like what happened when I had Joseph - had ventouse & episiotomy & ended up having 2 units of blood within 24 hours of having him & collapsed in the town centre when we were registering his birth & ended up back in hospital for 2 further units of blood. Was on iron tablets for ages & moved house when he was 3 weeks old & saw no healthcare professionals. It takes the shine off the birth & if you decide to have any more children it does make you worry about your next birth. Trust me when i say my birth with Holly was a much much better experience, so don't let it get you down too much.
I'd chase your midwife up regarding your symptoms or even the labour ward.
Congratulations on the safe arrival of your baby boy & well done hun x
