hi guys
quick question for you all..had my 16 week appointment today and realised as we were driving home that i wasn't asked for a urine sample - in fact i haven't been asked for one at all yet (apart from when i went to A&E with early bleeding) is this normal? thought i should have been asked for one by now?
lou x

I have to take one every time I see MW. Don't know if thats the norm everywhere but it is here :)

I've supposed to take one every visit, but I always forget.

The MW said it's not really important at beginning of pregnancy but more towards the end for some reason, I can't remember the reason though - pregnancy brain again!

Yep you should have had it tested by now I should think. Mine was checked at booking in (10 weeks ish) and at my 17 week appointment. They should certainly do it if only to get an idea of what is normal for you. But it is more important towards the end to check for protein (sign of pre-eclampsia), glucose (sign of diabetes), infection and lots of other things. There are spaces in your notes for it. Has your midwife filled in the other bits in your notes?

thanks girls  i know i might be worrying over nothing but this is my 1st so don't really know what to expect! they know that on my dads side that type 2 diabetes runs in the family so was thinking maybe they'd be keeping a clse eye on that? but as you're all saying maybe this is just as i get bigger :D
MummyJess- i think my notes are filled in properly, i've been weighed at each appointment, had my blood pressure etc taken and the number of weeks recorded.

I would just pick up a sample bottle and take a urine sample with you next time you go....

When I take my sample to the MW I have to open the bottle, she dips the stick and I have to take the sample home, wash out the bottle and use it for next time :D Talk about NHS recycling...... :)

Im sure the MW told me they dont normally start testing urine until 25 weeks, as most problems that are identified by the urine test, are not generally detected until later in pregnancy.
