Urinary infection?

I just got all my blood/urine results back from the hospital.

It looks as if I may have a urinary infection or simialr as they found blood cells in my urine and my bloods show raised white blood cell count.

They have asked me to give another sample in as soon as possible.

What bothers me is that it will take another 10 days to come back, and if I do have an infection (I feel fine) then it will probably be 2 weeks until its treated.

Will this do any harm to the baby, or me?

Has anyone else had a urinary infection?

cheers. x

I've never had one whilst pregnant  , but have had plenty whilst not. Try drinking plenty of cranberry juice to flush anything that might be there through. Failing that loads of water :D

If blood in your urine means a urinary infection then I think I have one cos my sample a few weeks back showed alot of blood in it.

They told me they'd follow it up and they never did

I dont think it will cause any harm to your baby at the moment, it will just be uncomfortable for you is all, but if it is left untreated for a very long time then it can get worse and travel to your kidneys which will be even more painful and you might have to have strong antibiotics which are not good for the baby.

So i say dont worry your baby will be fine and make sure they treat it asap, in the meantime try Cranberry Juice.

Thanks guys, I don't have any symptoms of urinary infection.

I dropped in another sample this morning so hopefully that one might be better.

I know blood cells in urine can be a sign of a bladder infection, and I also know that a raised white cell count (blood test) is a sign of your body fighting an infection.

I guess I'll wait and see then, I don't really want to bother the MW about it, especially as I feel fine.

I had quite a few in my pregnancies, i read somewhere you're meant to stop your wee midstream and then start the sample when having to give it for a second time. It never did my girls any harm, or myself, was just sore! Try using canisten on the outside of your bits, this may help with any burning and itching and won't do any harm so long as you dont put it up you!

And as someone said drink pleanty of cranberry juice and avoid things like orange and apple juice as these will make you sore xx

lol, thanks for the frank advice Claire!

Like I said before I don't have any symptoms (yet).

I remember when I gave the first sample I didn't really need to go so it was a bit of a struggle!

Certainly the one I dropped off this morning looked a whole lot healthier!

 tattoo,
Here's hoping the symptoms stay away :talkhand: but just to help fight any infection anyway, dramatically increase your water intake. Don't increase any caffine drinks including most fizzy ones and no diet stuff either, lots or water and if burning does come on then lots of cranberry juice like the girls said, but hey! prevention is much better than cure! Take care, Lv Yvonne xx
Did i say drink lots of water? :rotfl: :rotfl: you should! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes I am trying to drink more water. I'll go and have some now, I haven't really had to get up in the night yet so may as well!

Hi

I hope it clears up for you and dont get any worse
xxKatrina
