Road directions:

M5 Motorway

Exit the motorway at junction 4 and follow the signs for the A38, Bristol Road, this will lead through Northfield and Selly Oak. As you reach Selly Oak you will come to a main set of traffic lights, keep going straight on, down the Bristol Road, passed Birmingham University, until you see signs for BBC Pebble Mill. Turn right following the signs into Pebble Mill road and turn left at the end onto the Pershore road A441. Travel up the Pershore until the junction with Edgbaston Road, take a right towards the cricket ground. The entrance to the park is on the right directly opposite the cricket ground. Park at the very end of the car park if possible, follow it as far as you can go, try and park before it turns right onto grass. This is not crucial, but it's easier to get to the meeting point.

How will I get there?
I will be posting more info closer to the time EDIT: NOW POSTED BELOW, but for now if you arrive by train into Birmingham City Centre, it's a short walk (2-3 mins from New street station) to Corporation Street and the number 45 bus takes exactly 10 minutes to get there.
If you can work out what station you will be arriving at I will help with info to get you where you need to go!
Those that are driving, just let me know what motorway you'll be coming in on and I'll sort you out directions.
This site is pretty good if you need other help with journey planning.
http://www.travelinemidlands.co.uk/cityplan/

Closer to the time I'll get a map and pinpoint a meeting spot on it (as the park is huge)

Bring a picnic, I'll bring sticky labels so we know who everyone is!

NOTE: If everyone wants to say the town they are coming from, and what transport they will be using, it'll be easier to hook people up if they want to meet on a train or have a lift or whatever :)

Here's a map..... I'll do another one for directions from the bus stop. Is anyone getting the bus from Birmingham City Centre?

THE ENTRANCE IS OFF EDGBASTON ROAD, DIRECTLY OPPOSITE THE CRICKET GROUND. THIS MAP SHOW CARPARKS AND THE BANDSTAND, WHERE WE WILL BE MEETING IF IT'S DRY.

This is the tea-room (if it's raining at midday meet here instead)

Ah-ha

found another one with roads on it.

BUS DIRECTIONS
OK for people coming on the bus (I'll put this in the first post aswell)

To walk to the Corporation Street from Birmingham New Street Station

• In the main station concourse, go up the escalator directly ahead of the ticket barrier area, then turn left into the Pallasades shopping centre.

• Walk towards the exit, then down the pedestrian ramp from the Pallasades to street level. There is a Mcdonalds on the Ramp

• At the bottom of the go STRAIGHT, crossing over the road and onto Corporation Street

Get on the number 35, 45 or 47 bus The Stops are outside superdrug and ask the driver to tell you when you get to Birmingham Nature Centre You will get off on Persore Road (see map above-- it's the same road the Nature Centre is on)
The nature centre looks like this:
par0038mini.jpg

As you look at the centre in that pic, there is a pathway on the LEFT...a long path with trees either side. Follow the path (it turns left at the end)
There is a gate into cannon hill park there, go straight into the park, over the bridges, carry on straight on the path and you'll come to the meeting spot near the band stand (the star on the map or the tea room if it's raining)

-----------

What to bring!

Please bring a blanket to sit on if you have one.
Bring your own sandwiches and something to share, eg crisps, if you want to :)

------------

THERE ARE CAFES ETC THERE SO DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT BRINGING ABSOLUTLEY EVERYTHING.

I'd be up for it but Birmingham is way too far north for me...plus I don't want to be travelling to far when I'll be that close to my due date. Sounds like a blast though!! :D

Sounds excellent! Im in Cardiff so can pretty much get to anywhere within reasonbale driving distance off the M4 or up the M1 :D

Make it somewhere i can catch a plane from Budapest to and has a travel lodge and im there.

Obviously we need to be realistic and say ANYWHERE is going to be too far for some people.

I may sound biased but Birmingham IS slap bang in the middle of the country...............

What other places are central to get to by train? Manchester, London?

I thought last year's venue was good as it had an option for bad weather. How about Hatton Country Park?

Birmingham isnt slap bang in the middle of the uk.... just england!!

Think of me up here in the sticks of Scotland!! :rotfl:

Oops  Maybe North-West England may be better then? I know we have quite a lot of members north of the border?

Manchester, Liverpool, Preston (loads of Scottish trains go through there) :?

Let's do it in Blackpool - we've just lost out on the casino licence bid, the only new tourist attraction the council's desperately pinning its hopes on is the new Debenhams :bored: and they've just removed the log flume from the Pleasure Beach .... come on, you just know you wouldn't be able to resist a meet-up here :cheer: :rotfl:

We chose Birmingham last time not only cos it was in the middle (of England!) but because it was good for trains etc, being a big city.

I'm open to all options though. :D

Awww I know you weren't being nasty!!!! I hope you can make it wherever we decide!

How about Brighton? I know it's on the south coast but it's easily to get to by road, rail or air (Gatwick) and has plenty to offer without the expense of London. I know there are at least half a dozen of us that live in the Brighton/Hove/Surrounding area.

How about Corfu and you can all have a holiday as well!!!!!

I love Brighton, but for me that would be a 4 hour drive and even longer on trains etc, but if thats the final desicion I'll try my best (and maybe could even pick anyone up thats on my way and do a car share??)

It might be best to create a shortlist that covers a few places (North, South and Midlands) and do a poll?

I still vote Brum but would make the effort to get to most places on a main trainline :D

Is this where we spend the next 10 pages with everyone saying their home town?

:rotfl:

Call me when you've picked somewhere.
