When are you all planning on doing the big food shop for Christmas? Do you even do a big shop? It's a big deal in our house because my (slightly gay and very anal) husband loves to spend all the stamps/loyalty points he's squirrelled together for 12 months.....

He have just short of £200 for Tesco, about £50 for Sainburgers and £15 for Morribobs. We've assigned the £15 to go on some real ales that you can only seem to get in Morrisons. The Sainsbugs rewards are going on a bird plus other bits that Tesco dont seem to have choice on like olives and other random bits. The Tescos will be everything else except fresh fruit and veg which we order to collect from the local green grocers on Christmas eve for freshness.

so we dont have to go for the 'big' shop too close because of the veg situation.....but I can decide what the best day to go is.....

I have never done a big shop myself, but I know my mum and dad get the meat and almost everything else in 3-4 days before Christmas day, the day before Christmas Eve is the day they would get the veg in.. Shops are absolute chockablock on this day though! And sometimes hard to get your hands on what you want.. We would always spread our shopping over a few supermarkets too, and the saving your bits and bobs to Christmas is a great idea :) My dad counts every penny he saves  I think it's an actual hobby for him

We don't do one, we all just de-camp to my Mums

Will be doing one next year though, as in laws are coming to mine. They don't really celebrate Christmas and never do Christmas dinner so I'll be pulling the stops out.

Im hoping my Mum makes it up on Saturday so she can go with me. If I take OH ill kill him and if I go on my own I will forget half of what I went for  Im getting all my veg from the local farm so no worries there.
I went to Tesco in Elgin yesterday and it was heaving, the car park was mobbed people were having to wait for spaces, the Christmas rush is on!

we dont do a big shop.. in fact we hardly buy anything because we're out all over xmas but this year colins real mum (who lives in devon) has offered to pay for our food shopping next week so basically im not going buy anything fresh but stock up on cupboard stuff like tins, pasta, jars, frozen stuff, baking stuff etc that will last us after christmas

my mum had to go to the vets this morning, and they were queueing (i've tried spelling that a million times and it still dont look right ) for miles down the by-pass to get to tescos! best time to go is xmas eve at about 2-3am. everyone aims to get there for midnight, but if you get there in the wee small hours its empty! and if you leave it til 5 its busy again  my mum's been doing big shops for weeks now and jsut adding bits to the list everyt ime she goes in lol!

We are hardly at home so not doing one this year. However I'm tagging along on mum's BIG one to sneak some bits into her trolley

I'm doing mine next Wednesday, but can't decide on a time :wall: I think mid morning, its going to be manic all day anyway  Last year I went at 6.30pm but it was that busy and they had run out of that much stuff I had to nearly go to every supermarket in town! I never got home to midnight! So lesson learned and won't do that again :wall:

I get all the veg and bits of fruit in the greengrocers and the big bird is collected by my oh on xmas eve from the butcher :D

 @ your slightly gay hubby Lisa  He's been thrifty to have saved all that :D

I saved £150 in adsa which I'm sepending tonight :yay: along with my usual spends so I wont need awful much next week :)

Some of the Tesco is Christmas savings scheme where when you pay with a card they will stick anything from a fiver up in the club for you. If you put £50 away with them they give you a fiver. The rest is from shopping and petrol. :D

I'm going to my mums so won't need too much, will just do a normal food shop I think but throw in some party bits and some treats for christmas day and boxing day xx

My sis is doing Crimbo this year, so no big shop for me!! Whoop whoop!

But usually, I go at around 2am days before! It is dead as a dodo at the shelves are generally being restocked at that time, so lots of nice fresh stuff. Then I collect my ordered fresh meat and veggies on christmas eve. I love doing the final shop for christmas - really gets me in the mood!

I also collected tonnes of Tesco vouchers - get them for Eon energy too, so really built up a good stash this year!

I went into Asda last night and it was freakishly busy so god knows what it will be like next week :wall:

i'm being made to go in the morning, so unimpressed by that! and there was me all chuffed that i didnt have to brave the crowds cos i dont have a big shop of my own to do! god it sucks getting discount at tescos  not to mention that i've ordered photogifts for my parents and being the tightarse i am, decided not to pay £1.50 for home delivery and to collect in store. on tuesday. 3 days before friggin christmas. :wall:

Numpty!!!

lmao my dad's writing his shopping list, mum's written what they need and he's writing it out in order of what comes where in the shop

Keith does that......

I was just gonna test you actually. Seriously, what's the best time to go that's not 2 am? we are thinking of going monday but cant decide if we should go during the day or late at night.......I dont want to get there and it look like it's been set about by a plague of locusts!

between 8 and ten at night's normally good, or early morning like 6ish. but the early morning's only good if its early in the week! they keep everthing really well stocked up this time of the year, all the managers are on atleast 12 hour shifts 7 days a week!

I'm thinking of getting there for opening monday morning......

you might find its busy then. dunno what its like where you are mind, but round here they're feckin crazy, they're all queued up outside waiting for it to open!!

I have never done xmas at my house so i've never had to do a big shop and it is the same this year. I will continue to go else where for christmas for as long as i can get away with it coz i hate shopping and cooking  xx
