My brother and his girlfriend are convinced that they are having a little boy because the guy who done their 12 week scan told them that he's been doing it for years and he's convinced that its a boy... Is this even possible?

i had a scan at 13 weeks 2 days and there was definitily no boy bits then. at my 17 week scan it was confirmed baby was a girl!

so i guess it could be possible that early!

Hmm not really sure

I had a scan at 16w 5d and our sonographer said she knew the sex of our baby. She zoomed right in on his bits and said she'd never been more certain that was a boy lol.

Never heard of anyone finding out the sex of baby at 12 weeks but not saying its not possible.

xxxxxxx

possible or not it isnt guaranteed so he had no right telling them that early.

Nope not at 12 weeks. Genitalia isn't formed and visible till past 14-15 weeks and then its inconclusive. Hence them waiting till 20 weeks when things are defo more formed and clear cut.

hello  i hope you don't think i'm butting in  my sister and her husband had a scan at 13 weeks and because they were kept waiting for so long (2 hours  ) the sonographer flicked it into 3d for them for a few minutes, my sister and the sonographer both said they could see it was a boy but i now have a 3 month old niece :)
i think it shows that even in 3d they can't tell that early   xx

same, i didnt even think they had their bits properly at 12 wks !!! Tell her not to go too mad shopping just yet eh !!

12 weeks is too early to see the sex as it all looks the same down their untill your much further on, they can usually tell on scans from 16 weeks

Baby's sex can't be shown in 3D, it doesn't work like that. You can only see it in 2D. Hence why they were wrong, because it was just guess work.

And as has been said there is nothing there to see until after 15/16 weeks

i have heard that the genitals are already distinguishable from 12 weeks onwards as they change shape depending on boy/girl but that it is near impossible to tell until things are a bit bigger...around 16 weeks

Im sure that people that are experience can tell from other things like how your carrying, sound of heartbeat ect. but their "bits" arent even formed yet. I cant understand why the sonogropher would have said anything im sure its between 15-16 weeks before you can tell. im no expert but im sure 12 weeks is too early.

External genitalia are beginning to show distinguishing features and the development of male or female will be complete in three weeks.
Thats at 11 weeks so there not much chance they can tell at 12 weeks as they arent fully formed until about 14 weeks as Sherlock has already stated!!

With Grace and Joe, we were told to expect same-sex twins.
They were wrong
We had another scan at 25 weeks and we were told 1 boy and 1 girl.

With the girls, they said straight away two girls.
Atleast we've been told we're having girls!

hmmmm when i had my 12 week scan with James they said it's LOOKING like a boy but they couldn't say for sure as they arn't aloud to sex the baby that early and guess what at his 19 wk scan we saw these massive willy and balls before the snographer told us lol it was that ovious :D
when i had my 15 wk scan with emma (supposivly 12 wk scan) they said i'd buy pink if i was you lol
