Sweep today - UPDATE!!

So I had my appointment for my sweep today but my cervix is posterior and hard so they couldn't do it. The examination was a little bit painful but nothing I can't cope with. Back at the hospital on Friday for another go!
My BP has shot up and luckily there was no protein in my urine so have been put on tablets to bring my BP down.
I went to the toilet once they'd finished with me at the hospital and think I lost a bit of plug, but since then I've had a little bit of pink/brown blood only when I wipe. Is this normal??? Baby has been moving round since I had my examination and they checked his heartbeat and all was good.
They also had to take blood from me to check my liver and kidney function as that can be related to high blood pressure. To be honest I'm pretty sure they'll come back clear and think the raised BP was only down to me feeling anxious about today.

Sorry to hear that they couldn't do the sweep. Hope your blood pressure comes down. Not sure about the blood. xx

I think the bleeding is normal after an examination but i'd let them know just incase. BP = Pain in the arse! Mine is okish at the minute but not normal. Hope baby makes an appearance for you soon. xxx

My first thought is it wld be normal did they not say u might have some blood/dishcharge?

my midwife said i would get some bloody type discharge after my sweep today (which has been coming out since she did the sweep) she said only to worry if its watery with brown or green tinge, but to expect some loss after them poking around.. not sure if that helps or not!!?!

They did say discharge was normal or loss of plug but there was definitley some blood loss (not much more like spotting really). Theres been no more blood the pass 2 times I've been to the loo so am thinking it's because she gave me quite a thorough examination.
I'm seeing my MW tomorrow so will mention it to her then. If I start having more bleeding I'll call the hospital.

Roo a friend of mine had the exact same problem about 2 weeks ago. I told her about raspberry leaf tablets that you can take. The idea is that they help to soften your cervix. I bought mine in Holland & Barrat - you can start taking them from about 36 weeks. My friend took them and says that they def helped! So might be worth a try before your next appointment? x

Thanks Xcited. I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea since 37 weeks but only 1 cup a day so am increasing it to 2 cups a day in the hope that does something. Am also bouncing on my ball and eating pineapple!! x

Had MW appointment today and my BP has come right down so I must have got myself really worked up about having the sweep yesterday.
She said the brown discharge and a bit of blood is normal after having an examination and I'm not to worry about it.
She thinks that it's unlikely that these sweeps will work as it just doesn't look as though I'm ready so she's popping round on saturday to talk to me about inductions and what to expect.
She said to carry on with my raspberry leaf tea and said she didn't think it matters how many cups I have a day as it's only herbal so I'm going to drink as many as possible!
Ah well, roll on sweep number 2 tomorrow. Lets hope that one does something!!

feeling alot better now.. the pains from the sweep have worn off nearly completely now. Had some slightly painful tightenings through the night last night but all gone this morning! So no not much happnin here!! let us know how u get on....

Will do. I'm not holding out much hope to be honest but you never know.

Hope the tightenings you've been having are the lead up to labour for you.

Just back from my second sweep. She managed to tip the cervix (whatever that means) but basically my boy just isnt ready to come and meet me. BP was fine too.
Got another sweep booked on tuesday then back seeing my consultant on wednesday where he'll book in my induction if nothing happens by then.
