I don't always do one but I am today! Yummy chicken, steam veg, roasties, sage & yourkshires! Mmmmmm

I've always put the chicken in when I need to but I always see people starting it earlier in the day :eh: do you slowly cook your meat or whack it on when its time? If you slowly cook your chicken ...how? Temp? Foil? ...?

mmm, sounds good!
i'm petrified of cooking a whole chicken, usually just do thighs and whap them in the oven when it's time :p

ooo yum! i always do mine so it's ready with the veggies and pud! ooo yum!

Our chicken went in the slow cooker at 7.30am this morning. We are having an early lunch (12.30) because we need to go and collect a cot this afternoon.....well OH does.....

Scares me to do it this way lol ...

So its about 4-5 hours in slow cooker from raw? Just the chicken ...or? And if prefered you can crisp the skin off in oven? Oh and I assume high heat setting?

Yummy :) That's good about the slow cooker I really need one of those :yay:

The girls are sat eating it now......roasties have been in for ages too so they are nice and crispy. Hebe's just scoffed hers down. The chicken stays mega moist and we give the skin to the dogs TBH but yeah you could throw the skin in the oven on high to crisp it off when you do your Yorkshires.

Today's chicken went for 5 hours on low heat with salt and pepper on it and nothing else. dont be tempted to look at it too soon or you let all the steam and heat out. We use the juices in the gravy :)

Did you put all your roasties and veg in along with it?

No. We've done that and we dont like the way the veg comes out - I like mine crunchy and yes it was cooked but too cooked for my liking. The roasties (spuds, carrot, parsnips) have been in the oven about 2 hours. :)

Do you add anything to the chicken or does it just cook in its own juices?

Sorry wobbles to take away from your lovely roast thread :oooo:

Nothing.....naked.....

If we do lamb or mutton we put an inch of water in the bottom and maybe a bit of rosemary coz we've tonnes in the garden. But they say you dont need any water or anything. I was very sceptical about it but everyone who eats meat from it here totally raves about how juicy it stays. Chicken in particular. We are going to do the bird in it Christmas Day :D

Keith said he's gonna kick it in or sit on the lid! We get a turkey crown usually coz there's only 3 eating it and a bit for Hebe.

mine ain't big enough to but a bird in it... may have to work in that one, it sounds lush...
i do pot roast beef in it though...

You're all making me so hungry...we're going to a friend's for a roast later :D

I'm trying out a new recipe, like a morrocan pork affair... my oven is bust so a roast is out this week... ad probably next when we have friends coming for sunday lunch... whoops

i do my chicken for about an hour and a half/two hours.. in the oven with butter, salt and pepper on about 180 (i think thats gas mark 6!?)

today im at the inlaws for sunday lunch.. theyre having beef which i dont really like so itll be veggies and tatties for me yum.. the beef has been in for about an hour already and we're eating at 5.30

if you get a boned bird it'll fit in  i really want a slow cooker now, sayin that tho, i'm not allowed to cook atm!! we're having roast beef from the farm, and all the trimmings...cant wait!!
