Hi guys, been a stranger for a while, hope everyone is ok and enjoying their pregnancies. I wondered if you might be able to help me. I am a carer and starting to struggle. I am 22 weeks. The boss has decided we have got to do some course, pretty much like being at college. Now I have OCD so I panic when I have to do anything like this and I will panic trying to do this. I don't want to get myself in a state trying to do it, especially being pregnant, I don't want to cause my baby distress. Shall I just deal with it and get all worked up etc or just say sorry I'm not prepared to stress myself out Doing it while I'm pregnant?! It won't go down well but I really don't want to get so stressed about it which I will and cause my baby distress. Please help! X

Bless you! Well, as far as I am concerned you and LO are what counts at the moment, I woud definately speak to your boss an explain how the situation is affecting you. If your boss does not empathise with you then you can always speak to your GP/MW xx

You could explain to your boss that it would be too difficult for you right now and could you do it after you return from maternity leave. The problem is you are really just delaying the inevitable, as it will probably be just as difficult for you trying to do it while you also have a baby to look after.
After you have your lo you will probably come up against lots of situations that are going to be made more difficult for you due to your OCD, so maybe its worth looking at getting some support/help to deal with the problem, rather than just avoiding it. Good luck. X

Thank you ladies. I don't mind getting stressed about it after giving birth, I just don't want to while pregnant as I get into such a state and don't want to upset baby.

I think what Happyred said is a very valid point. I'm assuming your boss knows you have OCD in order to help you cope with it at work? Would it not be a good idea perhaps to say to your boss that while you're happy to do any training required to help you on the job, due to your OCD you would like to request support from a counsellor or OT to help you manage your difficulties while doing so?
If they have done a risk assessment and stress was not mentioned in it, you should probably ask to be reassessed. It might then be decided that you are in fact better waiting.

Stress should not be taken lightly when pregnant, you're absolutely right xx

I agree. Not meaning to sound harsh, but what are the chances that you would have another reason not to do it? I only say this from personal experience. I have put things off for so long due to fear and it has got me nowhere. It won't be healthy for you to be worrying about it for weeks when you next have to do it. x
