Not sure if you've seen this story on the news.

I'm sure they have good reason for wanting to take the baby away from the mother, at least I hope so but it's scary that they think they don't have to follow the law in order to do it. I just think if they don't it leaves the door open for mistakes to be made. ie taking a baby away when really it shouldn't. Imagine them coming in the middle of the night to take your 2 hour old baby away!!

Was really angry watching this morning at the people that took the baby,
how dare they single this young woman out becuase of her background and the fact she was in care.

If thats the case why didnt they take my children from me? I was in care, had mental health issues and was abused - so why do I have mine still?
Granted im married and Im stable now but what right do they have to single this girl out.

no actually this is frightening. i was diagnosed with a couple problems in my teens and its horrifying now iv heard stories like this to think my baby couldve been taken because of my history! im lucky to hav escaped PND but if i DID hav it i might be hesitant to seek help in case they took my baby away. it shouldnt be like that :(

No your right TP.. girls should feel as though they can ask for help regardless of past problems :(

I remember a social worker coming to see me in hospital after Tia was born, because of the problems I had in my past... and she made a mention of taking the baby into care if i suffered from PND... I told her to go and fornicate with herself... in a polite sort of way, and was lucky to never have any issues... :) and refused to speak to any of them ever again.

But they could have so easily taken her away... It just seems odd that there are just random women who the social services seem intent on making an example of.. I was young and I was single.... so why not me?

That is shocking Squig, I thought that maybe I didn't know full story and this girl really didn't deserve to have her baby but by the sounds of it this isn't that uncommon. scary stuff :?

I don't trust HV's or social workers.... I had many run ins with them in the two years Tia and I were in the UK.... I wouldn't let them in my house either... sorry but all the ones I met were scum... when Tia got meningitis her a&e report said admitted with diarrhoea and vomiting so the HV said she'd send social services round to check I was cleaning and sterilising bottles correctly... Thats when I told her to call the ward and ask why Tia was in hospital, and to get her facts right before threatening me... needless to say she never darkened my doorway again.... couldn't wait to leave the UK tbh....

i'm not surprised

I feel quite lucky that I have pretty nice health visitors round here, not nosey at all and they tell you that although they have to give you goverment guidelines and stuff they say I'm mammy and I know best so to go with my instinct.

Its a good job really cos I'm not the type of person who has a lot of patience when it comes to stuff like that, i'd lose my rag if I thought they were interfering in any way!

Even if they follow the law, mistakes are still made. No guarantee they get it right, be it removing a child, allowing one to stay with a family or simply not following up a call.

Another one of the public services that has a bad rap in the press. On the times they get it right, really right, we never hear about it. But also too many occasions in the past that Social services have made errors and its cost families dearly. Something to be said for the press only reporting the bad news :? Not sure what, but a few positive stories from them wouldn't go amiss IMO.

No doubt this woman is looking at a lawsuit. Silly of the services to do what they did, now there are all kinds of repercussions and ongoing legal crapola to wait for.
