Semen analysis.

Hi ladies.

My hubby is going to hand in his first sample when I go in for my HSG, which will be the 11th Jan, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or anything, I don't know much about how he's got to do it - does he have to avoid sex for a few days etc?

He said the second sample has to be done 4 weeks later so 11th February (my birthday!) could be the day he does the second sample.

Ideally he'd not ejaculate for three days before the sample

So he'd ejaculate on the 8th at roughly the same time as the sample and then not do it again until sample day.

If he can't do it the same time then he should do it the day before, so on the eve of the 7th.

Before his last ejaculate before the sample, he should be getting off as frequently as he usually does.

If he is sensitive to his surroundings then i suggest he takes his own porn and maybe his iPod, although my husband manages to just perform it's depends on the guy

We've been having sex as per normal, I was worried we should have been stopping a few days before sample day. My HSG appointment is at 9am so I'm not sure what the plan is for him getting his sample to the department - I can't even remember where he has to take it.

My hubby managed ok at the fertility dept in their little 'men's room' haha. It's better there as it's fresh! We were told to abstain for 2-7 days before the sample, but ideally 3 or 4. I think we did 3 and a half. Good luck with your HSG and hubby's sample hun. Xxx

Hi I remember when my hubby did his 2 NHS samples he had to to it in the hospitals disabled toilet as they did not have a room. But he did it there because it was fresh. When he had his private sample done at Harley street, he had a dedicated room, music, and was given a stash of magazines! He then had to ring a bell and the doctor picked it up from him straight away. It made me laugh when he told me at the difference as oppossed to trying to do it in a crappy toilet! I think we were told 3-4 days to abstain. I really would try to do it at the hospital whatever the conditions as it is fresh xxxxx good luck gizzy xxx

my hubby was told to have a pee right before and then wash his wee chap with some water and dry thoroughly. love the diference in rooms Gizzy! my hubby was at nhs and there was a dedicated room so he was happy with that but he was most disturbed by the laminated individual pages of Nuts, FHM etc, not even a full magazine hahahahaha!!!

he has no issueswith "production" so just got on with it so to speak. he said the worst bit was walking out the room with his sample tucked up his sleeve to hand to the receptionist who was a lady in her 50s, thinking she was thinking "hahaha you just cracked one off!"

I have 4 days before my HSG, so I'll tell him no nookie til after the appointment. I'll probably have my HSG first then go to the other department with him so he can do his sample. I think he would prefer to do it at home but I'll speak to him tonight and see what's happening. I haven't talked to him much about it cos I don't want him to feel under pressure - I already feel sorry for him having to go in a little jar lol.

My hubby did it at home but we got told that the sample had to be taken to the hospital within an hour after beeing "produced". We live near by so I took it!!

I think we were told 3-4 days before there was to be no funny business. He had to do it at home as the Southern don't have a room to do it in..... and he had to get it there within the hour and keep it warm in his pocket.

He banished me out the house...... said he couldn't do it while I was in the house. Men! i'm not naive enuff to think he doesn't do it other times when I'm in the house!

Yeah my hubby was told to take it in within an hour - don't think he'll be able to cos my appointment's at 9 and I don't think the clinic will be open before then. He might just have to wait til I've had my HSG and then go off and do his sample afterwards.

Make sure hubbys sperm sample is handed in within the hour deadline otherwise the sperm die, keep the pot warm, stick it in your pocket or in a glove, and abstain from sex for a few days.

My hubby done his sample in the hospital disabled loo's as we were worried of missing the deadline, but I appreciate that not all men feel comfortable, so maybe you could do his sample at your house and get to the hospital a little bit earlier then your appt so you can drop it off and then head straight down to where you need to be xxx

Thanks everyone for replies, he's decided to take it in himself on either Thursday or Friday so there's no rushing about. Oh and I found our letter from the hospital, our forms say he has to have no nookie for 3 days, 4 at maximum.Not long now til I have my HSG, I'm sooo nervous!! The bit I'm not looking forward to is the catheter being put in! Makes me wince just thinking about it!x
