Self employed and maternity

Hi

We are trying for a baby next year after our wedding and I was wondering if anyone knew how my situation would work with maternity pay, here it goes...

I own a small pet care company (that I am rushed off my feet with) and when I go on maternity I plan on employing someone for a year to cover me so I don't loose my loyal customers and the company (At the minute I have no employees)

Does anyone know how this would work with maternity allowance? would I still be eligible for the £128 a week if I have an employee (they themselves would be employed on a self employment basis)

Any advise would be much appreciated

You should maybe try talking to the Job Centre as they are the people who you would be claiming through for Maternity Allowance - I can't see why employing someone else would effect your money as it is the same as someone coming into any company to cover maternity leave
