I was just wondering how you guys find being a stay at home mum for thse who are, hope you dont mind. How do you find it affects your financial situation, have you becaome even closer to your little one? Id love do be a sahm but im not sure we would be able to cope finantially which upsets me as id like to spend a little more time with hope. Thanks in advance :D

We manage alright, but then my OH is on a high wage. We sat down and worked it out when I was pregnant that if Arianna was to go to a nursery, each week after I had paid the fees I would only have about £20 left of my wage so decided it was pointless.

I think Arianna and I have a close bond, but I'm not sure if that is because she is at home with me or if it's just a mother-daughter bond.

We cope quite well, but again my OH is on a high wage too. Don't get me wrong we don't live like kings!! But we don't have to worry about bills or count the penny's.................but on the other hand we don't really treat ourselves either, I'm not one for expensive new clothes, shoes and hair salons! We don't really go out much either or smoke (we both used too) so that saves quite a bit.
My OH has nothing to do with the money as he is terrible, he has always had a good wage and I have seen him squander so much over the years :x I have managed all our finances for the last 2 years. I budget everything and put money away each month for upcoming bills, christmas, etc etc. That way you know exactly what you have and whats coming out.

I would say that Dan and I are very close, but I have no other children to compare it to. I wouldn't like to leave him with someone else all day, I love being the one to see him grow, feed him, comfort him etc etc
The only worry I have is that he needs to interact with other people/children so I always make sure he goes to classes and the park and generally out and about.

Hi Mel :D

My husbands not on the best wage but we manage with working tax and child tax and theres not alot left over for luxuries.

But then I dont get to spend any money during the week ocvos im at home!!!

I do have a very good relationship with imogen staying at home and wont be working till shes in school.

Yeah, I do have friends with their little ones round alot so that Arianna has alot of interaction with other kids.

I only work one day a week, so I'm almost a SAHM.
Obviously we would be able to afford more stuff if I worked more, but with childcare cost etc it's just not feasible while I'm on my current wage.

I think when the new baby is older I can concentrate on getting some training and getting a better paid job.

Hi i stay at home for the same reason as Sarah H, DH isnt on a high wage but we manage.

I do miss work but im glad i made the decision to ba a SAHM as there is no other place id rather be. I LOOVE being a mum and i feel lucky to be able to stay at home with Olivia she is such a pleasure to be around! We love going to toddler groups and things

When Brooke was age i was on a full time college course and she was in a creche (at the college) although i used to see Brooke a dinner times and help out in the creche in my spare time. This Probably sounds stupid but even tho Brooke loved being in the creche i do sometimes feel guilty that i didnt spend as much time with her as i do with Olivia.

Sorry i just realised how much i have babbled on

My OH is a computer programmer.
He's written loads of programs for lots of high profile companies (he single handedly wrote the entire stock system for GAP Uk, can you tell I am very proud of him!!  )
He currently works for a company who writes software for the stock exchange.

Thanks ladies id love to find a job i can do from home at nights as i hate having to work nights as it doesnt mean we get much time as a family and it is affecting how we are with each other, your all doing fab jobs ladies

DH is the finance manager of a software company (basically he's an accountant!).

We can afford to live off his wage, but we don't have a lot of spare cash after bills come out but then we wouldn't be any better off if I worked because childcare costs for two would swallow my wages and then some (we would get barely any help). We just about scrape through each month, but I don't think I'd have it any other way, though sometimes I wonder what it would be like to go out to work. If I'd had a bad day at work I'd just wonder why I was there instead of with my kids (and paying for the priviledge of having a shat day because of childcare!)

My children are well dressed, well fed and loved (not in that order ;) ) and tbh that's the main priority in this house. We come last, so for clothes, haircuts and luxuries well that has to come out of any cash that's saved at the end of the month.

It's boring being a SAHM. Especially when you feel like you just clean, cook, clean, get shouted at etc etc. It's pretty thankless!

my hubby is an Offshore Stores and Logistics Manager and works away for 28 days at a time in Trinidad and then home for 28 days.

To be honest, we are the same as Kina.... Priority list is bills first then Arianna and us last.

hehe thanks ladies  , think my hubby picked the wrong career choice, hes a chef and works 50 hours a week, but is only min wage.. :(

just to clarify we dont spend all our money on ourselves, but we both earn pretty much the same amount so just cant do without either wage. his wage on its only would only cover our mortgage so mine has to cover the rest. i guess what im saying is that you are very lucky and im just jealous lol.

Your DH works really hard hon, I hope he cooks you all up some delicious treats at home

yeah he does, shame the pay sucks   thanks for the hug, just one of those days, of me feeling sorry for myself

I am a SAHM i am very close to my son and can't imagine leaving him but then i always knew i would be a SAHNM

The ONLY downside I feel is that we have no chance of getting a mortgage because I don't work :( We don't have lots of money for holidays and special things like bling and fancy clothes you hardly wear etc  Still, I'd rather wear my joggers and a jumper and roll around the floor with Isaac than have a house, fancy clothes and bling  I feel very lucky to be a SAHM :cheer: I could actually earn more than OH with my education but I want to be the one who stays home rather than him
