Hello,
Hope you are all well?
I had my 28 week midwife appointment with my horrible midwife who winged at me constantly about me living to far away from the surgery and shouldnt be on her books, that she doesnt have enough time to do things properly so rushed me in and out etc etc I am supposed to have an appointment at 31 weeks but she said oh we will see you at 32 weeks instead as I am 2 busy!!! Sorry to rant but the thing I am worried about is munchkins movements. I mentioned to the midwife that rather then increasing mine seem to be slowing down. They are getting stronger as in I can really see them on the outside now but they are not regular, the midwife moaned at me and ssaid I should have been in contact with them by now as at 28 weeks I should be having a minimum of 10 movements a day which I dont think I do every day, dont get me wrong some days I have loads others hardly at all. I the noticed that by here readings munchkins heartrate was down to 120-130 when it is normally 150-160 but she didnt pick up on this and she didnt advise me what to do next. I am at the out patience anti natel this morning for me anti-d and dont know whether to metion it. Last night I was in tears as I read on the internet that babies can go quiet days before someting bad happens. I dont know if I am over reacting to everything and that I just dont notice kicks as much as my DH says he can always feel baby moving when he puts his hand on my tummy!!!
I am just a bit confused to be honest and the midwife didnt help. She said to do a kick chart to feel 10 movements a day but does this mean 10 kicks or 10 seperate periods of moving but also if he wiggles then stops for 15 minutes then starts again is this classed as one movement or two!!

Sorry for the essay but my midwife has really confused me, also who do you ring when you are worried????

Thanks Everyone for your kind words and reassurance. I went had my anti - d and whilst sat there on my reclining chair :D I toyed with the idea of speaking to someone about the lack of movements. Eventually I plucked up the courage and spoke out (I was worried they would think I was a time waster!!) Any How they put me on a trace and the women said it sounds like you have a samba dancer in there. They recorded lots of movements and suprisingly I wasnt feeling them all. She said it would probably be because of the placenta but she checked my notes and it is up top and at the bck so shouldnt really stop it. I think I must just not notice them as much anymore unless I am concentrating on them. So overall everything is fine with muinchkin, I am so releived :cheer: :cheer:

On a bad note though I came out of hospital to find a lovely yellow parking ticket stuck to my car window. The place where I have been parking for years has now become resident only parking but there were no signs around where I aprked so I hunted down the parking attendant and ask where the signs were and they are as you enter the estate and I never noticed. I said shouldnt they be everywhere and he said no just those signs, he said if they said no entry you would notice them :wall: So there is £35 down the drain that I dont have but at least baby is safe and sound :cheer: :cheer:

 Sorry you don't seem to have a very supportive MW!

If you don't feel 10 movements in a 12 hour period you should get yourself down to the maternity ward where they will monitor you. My bump has been a lot less active the last couple of weeks but I still get 10. Sometimes I find that where I am used to it now I don't actually notice some movements unless I lay in the bath (or try to go to sleep  )

The baby's heartbeat will go up and down- thats perfectly normal for a healthy baby.

You are in the final weeks now- take it easy and relax. I'm sure everything is fine

awww hun
id definatly mension it at the clinic when you get your jab today just see what they say they may be able to run a bit of monitoring on you.
as for who to ring when your worried you ring the hospital you are going to give birth at, you can ring your midwife but yours seems really bad so i wouldnt bother
manda xx

Hey luv,

If I was you I'd call my local mat unit (or speak to someone when you go for your anti-d).

Tell them everything you've said here and get them to check you and bubs out.

Once you've been checked out I would speak to them about how you don't really like your M/W and that you don't have faith in her.

It's an emotional time and you don't need the added stress of a twat for a m/w!

The 10 movements thing varies. But so do babies patterns, so don't fret overly :)

I think the best one is done over 12 hours, and count each baby kick fest as one movement. So if LO gives just a few kicks in a minute or two, that counts as one movement. If baby is active for half an hour with short rests during this, also count it as one movement. If you get a wriggle on its own and nothing else 5-10 minutes either side of it, also one. And so on. I count hiccups also as they are movement and usually come when LO is being lazy and not doing anything so really stand out.

I found my LO changed from having a regular wakeful times to going for longer periods without really moving much. Still has active time in late evening and after I go to bed, but gone are the busy kick fests in the afternoon and so on. More wriggles and squirms.

Also half the time I am doing things and tbh don't really notice the movements so much. Better when resting I find to notice them.

Also consider your LO might be kicking into your placenta so you are not feeling them so much atm. I have that loads as do many other women. It really does absorb a lot of action  At 28 weeks they still have room to flip around so can do this and then in a few days change again and you'll notice more kicks again.

aww hun

try not to worry and as others have said mention this to someone today at the clinic.

The 10 movements a day is as everyone else explained :D once you start to monitor it you WILL get those movements. Its suprising how much they do move. As soon as I started monitoring my baby it made me laugh how much he actually moved and I didnt really notice as you stop registering every single kick where you get used to it. At 28 weeks they do slow down too, movements change as you described, much bigger and defined and not as manic as before. The pattern also changes. In a few weeks they will change again just to make you paranoid  and keep doing so until you have baby in your arms as Im learning!

Hello,

I've noticed a drop in the amount of babys movements over this past week, I called my midwife who put my mind at rest but I too did the looking online and then crying because of what I read online, I was on the phone in tears to my mother  Because it was a Saturday I tried all the numbers on my notes and eventually called the labour ward who I got an answer from, they seemed fine about me doing this.

Your midwife sounds horrible, would you be able to change, or do they change anyway at different appointments?

aw hun, have a

My baby is the same with movements, from 16 - 24 weeks i always felt really strong kicks, but since 24 they have been gradually petering out, and now i hardlyevr feel "kicks", just wriggly movements.

I have been monitored a lot, and had 2 extra scans (at 24 and 28 weeks) and everything is fine, i just have a quiet baby.

Also, the consultant told me that as i am tall, the baby still fits in my pelvis (she is VERY low) and that i am less likely to feel movements down there than if she were higher, so would this maybe apply to you?

I think if you are worried you should call the hospital, ask if they have a "maternity assessment clinic" rather than just speaking to your ususal midwife.

Hope all is well, try not to worry too much hun.

Cant offer any different advice hun but hope you mention it today and put your mind at rest, horrible MW

Glad everything is ok with your LO. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

 :shakehead: at the parking attendent...poor you hun.

What do parking attendants always cast a shadow over bright days?

There is onlyone in nuneaton. She was in the paper very proud that she had booked a record amount of people. So much so that the council canafford tokeep her for another year :x

Hi First Baby White,

Really glad to hear everything is ok with your baby - what a nightmare m/w you have. It's certainly not your problem that she hasn't got time to do stuff, and she has no right to take it out on you! Glad the hospital took it a little more seriously - that's how it should be, afterall, it's better to be safe than sorry!

Sorry to hear about the parking ticket - how annoying!!!
