Can anyone reccomend any?
OH and I are really into Japanese horror, but think we've seen most of the best ones lately.
Nothing is scary enough, the over-acted and dramatic American horrors don't do it for me, I like dark psycological better.
Looking forward to some cuddling up in front of a film with a load of junk food (have to get it in before baby arrives cos I know film watching goes out of window for a good while!)
:)

Have you seen The Ring films? The proper ones :p The original Japanese ones are much more creepy.

Ichi The Killer, gruesome. The Dead or Alive films again gruesome and scary.

Not Japanese, but is Asian the Old Boy series is meant to be quite scary, though I've only seen Old Boy itself. Nasty twist in the tale.

Meet the Katakuri's is a scary bloody film, but is really funny to as it's a musical. Well worth watching!

The OH says The Great Yokai War was good, but I've not seen that.

Audition...... I do not have the courage to watch this. We've started the film a few times and I've had to put it off.

A lot of the films use gore and horror, but that's rarely what the scary parts of the films are. It's more the psycological tension they create. I always think the gore highlights what they are not showing you.

The only Hollywierd film I've seen to have that affect on me is Event Horizon. Damn scary film.

Out of interest do you watch them with the subtitles? I always feel that dubbed movies never get across the emotions of the original actors. Steals away the fear factor ;)

Thanks for the reply, I've seen most of your suggestions but will def be looking up the ones I haven't.
Audition is good, you should watch til the end cos that's where it all happens, I can hear the weird noise she makes in my head now as she's doing her work!
We do have the subtitles on but I have trouble reading them without my glasses and can't lie on OH's lap with them on so I just see how I feel as the film progresses.
Despite what I've said about horror, one of my fave's is Hellraiser, I never get sick of it, but there was a heavy British production/cast so prob made a difference.

Thanks again for the tips-will let you know what I make of the films when we watch them! :)

I'm the same with the subtitles mind you. If they are too small I can't see them even with my glasses on :) I'll have to make an effort to watch Audition, maybe on a sunny afternoon and not go to sleep right after it ;)

Funny games..the original version!
I dont find any films scary enough but this one was disturbing and odd..no bad over acting and no cheesiness :)

O/H and I watched Rec the other night (Spanish horror).
It was pretty scary so I got my fix, also got some nightmares after it too  serves me right!

I watched this tonight and it was a pretty good film. I wouldn't say it's scary but does make you feel abit tense wondering what is going to happen next. It's worth watching. I'd give it about 7 out of 10.

The remake, Quarantine (sp?) is out soon so I might watch that aswell to see what that's like.

Hey, hmmmm... sounds good, its not cheap to buy the english version though considering its a year old or so. I might wait until some bargain comes up on the internet. I have just ordered and received "Pumpkin Head" and "From Hell" they were both in the top 10 scariest movies. Im waiting on some others to come as well so ill let you know what they are like.

Room 1408 did get me going. I jumped a couple of times which is unusual for me, not so much as really scary, well my 15 year old had his hands covering his face  , but I think its worth a watch.

The Ring trilogy (Japanese), The Hostel films, The Hills have Eyes (old version), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of 1000 corpses, Evil Dead, Don't Look Now.

Those are the really scary ones I can think of. I also love the Blair Witch Project but you've probably seen it by now.

There are some great old Hitchcock films that are more suspense/thriller than horror but good. Like Rebecca, Psycho, the Birds, Vertigo etc

oops. Also the Cube films are really good.

just watched The Eye and the Chair and they were pretty scary. Fragile is another one that scared me
