Well, after my boss claimed to have written to HR about my pregnancy and heard nothing back, I took matters in to my own hands today and got in touch myself!

I'm having a risk assessment next week and a meeting with a senior HR lady, I'm really pleased I'll finally get some info on mat leave etc but now my mind has gone completely blank as to what sort of things I should ask her!

Probably a silly question but does anyone have any suggestions/things you asked your employers??

Ask about accrued holiday, how you can take it to extend your paid mat leave (if that's what you want to do). Will you have taken all your annual leave? Can you carry any over to again use before or add on to nat leave?

This is my list to ask HR, I'll be stalking to se if there is anything else :)

Oh and I need OH to ask his HR what they need for his paternity leave, I think most companies want a copy of the matB1 form so I must remember to take a copy, and check if my work needs the original!

Sorry for all the messages, you got me think now!

Ask about particular dates and pay! Wether u have to pay any back ect!

And if they pay for 'keep in touch' days, if you think your job requires them, or you want to use them to keep up to date with training!

Thanks guys! I've just had my risk assessment and have my HR meeting this afternoon so you've been really helpful!!
:)

I would check things like

* What date they require you to officially give your maternity leave dates
* Can these be changed and if so what is the notice period? I think it's 8 weeks
* How will you receive your acrued holiday (my company will pay me for it or let me use it once I have acrued it) also just confirm that holiday acrued includes all of the Bank and Public Holidays
* When your return date will be and how much notice you need to change that - again I think its 8 weeks
* Does your company offer keeping in touch days?

Also remember you may not get your MATB1 form until 24 weeks (I got mine early as I am not back at the hospital until 28 weeks and then it is too late as my work need it by end of July!!)

Good luck!

I'm gonna print this thread for when I see HR after my holidays! my baby brain won't retain it all and there are some good points here :)

I have a loads of questions for my HR person (who is actually an accountant and doesn't have any official HR qualifications )

I am also reading up on the government websites and stuff, it is easier for me though as it is just SMP!

It went well! They told me to try to take all my holiday before I leave but since my holidays run from October to october and I'm due October 31st that's impossible! So she said I can take some after too :)
They gave me paperwork about how much time I can have, how much notice to give if I change my mind etc and I found out about whether I'll still get a yearly review (they'll postpone it and backdate any raise I should have gotten, woohoo). I also asked about keeping in touch days, which sounds quite good :)

My health and safety assessment was quite good too, I'm going to meet with the H&S guy every month so he can check how I'm doing and he's making sure I've got a chair!!

Good luck to everyone else who's looking to get answers from their workplace! Hope they are helpful!

Fab news hun, sounds like they were really helpful! Hope mine is when I see them next month!

Yeah, I need to have a discussion with HR about all this. I have a form to fill in about my maternity leave and what holidays I want to take and my mind is confused! Think i'll leave it till after the 20 week scan to start getting serious about maternity leave and all that jazz.

Useful responses to this thread though!
