Hi Everyone

I have never heard for this before, until a friend mentioned it as she knows I am trying for a baby and knows I am overweight....(on a diet though) Apperantly it can happen to people who are overweight (BMI 35 over, which mine is 37 at the moment)

I am really scared now after she has mentioned it, as I am thinking that is going to be me if I was to get pregnant, also common with your first child.

Has anyone had this before? Some details would help

hi, might not be useful but i've got a high bmi (39) and the midwife has said nothing really about my weight. I brought up these concerns with her and she said anyone could get it and if im healthy otherwise (ive got no other conditions that cause any concern) then i should relax and enjoy the pregnancy x

Hi there, I wasn't aware it had anything to do with weight specifically. I had Pre-Eclampsia with my first and my BMI was within normal range. Just try to relax and not think about anything like that, if you're trying now and it's really getting to you just enjoy some light exercise and try healthier snacks and things like that.

They should be able to detect if you have it from your blood and urine at normal check ups and then they can monitor you.

I think it's just a matter of luck really stay positive!

I dont think now is the time to be worrying about PE hun. I only know 2 people who had it in RL and neither were overweight in the slightest :)

I am overweight too... and High blood pressure is associated with being overweight in pregnancy. But that DOES NOT mean you are going to have problems with it, nor does it mean people of an average weight will not have blood pressure issues. My weight is always playing on my mind with TTC, and I have done A LOT of research over it. I recommend trying to get the book called "Big, beautiful and Pregnant". It is wonderful and a must read if you have any concerns.

I am very happy there are some bigger girls on here in the same position as me, as I have a lot going round in my head that I would love to talk to you girls about!! After all my research I am now not worried about conceiving overweight, or the problems that MIGHT come with it, but moreso about the reaction I may get from the medical professionals I am dealing with so much so that I dont think I would tell them I am ACTIVLEY TTC, as I may get frowned upon and that's not how I should feel!!!

Hi Pudds

Thanks for the advice! I have sent you a pm and a msg in your profile page, if you want that chat anytime, I am always here. Like you say it's nice to talk to someone who is going through the same thing.

I am going to look on ebay to see if I can get that book, sounds intresting!

I do think its insensitive of your friend to tell you this; she shouldnt be focusing on something that might never happen and defo shouldnt comment on your weight.

Thanks for the advice

I suppose she shouldn't of said anything, but that's the way she is, haves a big mouth and don't think before speaking lol She's ok in some senses

Anyway after having a conversation with Pudds and advice from the others, I am no relaxed about it and thinking whatever, if it happens it does...
