I was lucky enough to have some redundancy money saved so we started with £12,000. I am the bread winner and we can't cover bills with OHs wage alone so we will be using that to supplement for the 9 months along with taking annual leave before and after mat leave. Unfortunately I didn't qualify for paid leave at my new job.
I've heard people do it on next to nothing though, it depends if you can get second hand bits etc. and if you get enhanced maternity with work.
